Check fuel filter housing where primer is. Fuel heater overheats and distorts housing letting air in. Need to replace parts and new wiring pigtail kit. Part numbers are 68043086ab wiring kit, 68043089AA housing assy. There was a tsb in the USA regarding the diesel liberty and from research problems are possible up to 07 model year. Hope this helps.

To check. Remove 2 plugs on top of housing. Press primer until hard. If any fuel residue or wetness is in the socket housing then it needs to be replaced.

Fuel Filter housing. Fuel rail sensor or Pressure relief limiter valve. Injectors bypassing. What's the odds...Some results are interesting. Like a Motorhome recently on Out and about live, diesel of course, cutting out. Pages and pages, codes, scans of ECU running schematics/graphs....And answer was one Injector leaking a little too much...But what was it leaking when it cut out though. Max 25ml of fuel leak off/min each for CRD...

hi i have just joined you guys.

I bought a 2004 grand voyager 2.8 diesel in may . It had a couple of niggles when we 1st got it. When turning right going at a fair speed the engine slowed down but picked up again, Also hard acceleration going into kick down bad the engine cut out completely. after a couple of weeks the problem went away but has recently come back, cutting out easier. It has about 1006 k miles on clock. Speed on speedo correct checked with sat nav but distance  less than sat nav. anyone else got the sameprob. I will renew filters as 1st thing to do FUel air and sediment.

My works mechanic said that common rail fuel systems normally last about 150.000 miles is that the same for  Merc 2.8engines

I have joined this forum just to reply to this problem.

I have had the same trouble with my 2002 Grand Voyager 2.5 CRD.

First would not start after a short journey, then started after 20 mins break. Then started cutting out once she was warm, would sometimes restart straight away but mostly had to leave it for 20 to 30 mins.

AA were called and diagnosed a faulty Camshaft sensor which did prove to be correct but it was not the cause of the stalling.

I then changed the fuel filter as they are cheap and it needed doing but although this improved the start up, the car would still stall and not restart until cooled down.

No error code and the car ran fine when running. I watched a youtube video of a man heating up his Cranckshaft sensor over his gas cooker with a multi meter attatched. The car had not been showing any errors yet would cut out once warm. The multi meter dropped to zero once the sensor was warm.

Today I changed my Cranckshaft sensor and my car has been running on my drive for over 1 hour, just fine. Went for a drive and all is well with the world.

Sorry it is long winded but I am sooooo chuffed.. Hope this helps.

Hi. I've recently started having issues with the engine cutting out for no apparent reason. It's a grand voyager 2.8 crd. When it does cut out its then a pain to start. Any ideas??

Hi, High pressure fuel system, including gordy's suggestion.

Easy to check if the injectors are at blame, remove the return pipes from the injectors, seal the returning pipes and put the for pipes from the injectors into four cups( videos on youtube on how to), turn on the engine and leave it running for as long as the cups are half full(they should all have the same amount). This should give you a clear starting point.

High pressure system can be checked by removing the pressure release valve from the fuel rail and fit an designed gauge.

Hope it helps.

hi had exact same issues with my 2.5 crd and my 2.8 crd

2.5

changed every filter had tank chemically cleaned fuel system completely checked (ie all pipes injectors etc....)

never got to bottom of problem sold car for spares

2.8 had exact same problem

changed all filters fuel heater/pump housen still had problem

sent into diesel specialist after few hours diagnosing was fuel rail pressure release valve

been running perfect since October 2015 absolutely no reports !!!!

if i remember the labour was around £300 and the part was around £50 (worth every penny to me)

my advice is save yourself  the £1000s i have personally spent to discover my problem

pay few £££ for a diesel specialist to diagnose it properly for you
