  1. My mates gv had similar issue. His turned out to be egr valve. Replaced & it was sorted. I'm not sure if he had any fault codes but simptoms are similar
  2. Its going on eBay tomorrow as ive just bought a shogun. As Mike says it might not have much damage at all & be a reasonably easy fix for someone but we were thinking of a change anyway as we've owned it for 10 years now. Be a decent car for someone once the timing issue is sorted.
  3. As a few on here will know my GV has an engine issue, but its still far too good a car to just scrap. Recent work done includes new front discs & pads, new rear pads only last month. Gearbox ecu & solenoid renewed. Uprated torque converter & new clutch about 2 years ago. Front tyres in December New rad about 18 months ago. New update disc in sat nav. All else was working as it should. It does have a dent in passenger side fromt door & someone has reversed in to the rear bumper so that has a bit of damage too. Removable tow bar. Second row of seats need a small amount of attention but i have two entire seats in my lock up that will come with car & its only cup holders & a back panel that require. Ltd xs so has dvd etc. Offers around £500 i think is what I'm looking for. Engine might just need a new cam belt or it might need a bit more i just don't know. Was idling when it stopped so hopefully it hasn't bent anything but obviously I can't guarantee that. Car is in Rochester Kent &will need trailering away.   4. I bought a 2016 disc off eBay for about £25. Update went straight through & works well.
  5. . I've just spent all day trying to fix the electric windows on her Renault. Both rear windows went down when she opened the roof, but when she wanted to shut it one window went half way up & the other stayed all the way open. I've had to dismantle the entire assembly on both sides and manually shut them by taking the motor apart just so she can use the car. Glad its going next month as she's ordered a mew Mini Countryman that arrives in a few weeks time.
  6. Speaking as I was of her sodding megane - that happened to it about a year ago. One bulb went & the other went the following day - hence how I know it's an hour both sides. Different cars I know, but can happen. You assume they would both have originally been fitted the same day, first turned on the same day & done the same ever since.
  7. How did you get on? They are fortunately reasonably easy to change - unlike Mrs W's renault megane which is an hour both sides & hands ending up scratched.
  8. They are a bit odd in that way. As said turn all the way back & then forward one notch. My old voyager you had to turn back then press a button to get the key out. Had 2 friends who had same vehicle who snapped their keys as they didn't know how to remove it.
  9. I'd start by checking the fuel filter. I had a similar issue although mines a diesel & it turned out to be a dodgey fuel filter.
  10. Thanks - i might have to take you up on that offer!! I have had injectors out before as chrysler diagnosed dodgey injectors & when i took it to an injector specialist- as chrysler didn't want to actually do the job - it turned out to be a dodgey fuel filter. Be interesting to see what they find. Will have a few other jobs done like replacing the power steering fluid & if they're going to do an engine strip it'll need all new fluids & fluids & filters anyway.   11. Decided today that I'm going to give the go ahead to fix the car. I know it's going to sting when i get the bill but i also know its too good a car just to scrap & the garage i use will do only what needs doing but will do it properly as well.
  12. my gear change was always notchy & quite slow until I had to change the gearbox ecu &solenoid. After that it felt like a different car with smooth almost unnoticeable gear changes. I used to. The towing weight on these isn't that great though so you have to be careful what you tow. It has a limit of 1600kgs, which isn't a great deal when your talking about modern caravans. I blew my torque converter towing my van - an expensive repair at £1300, but for that I did get an uprated unit fitted with a lifetime warranty. Make sure you change your gearbox fluids regularly & that your gearbox cooler is working - if you can uprate that for a bigger cooler.
  13. Thanks - but I think my engine really is knackered. I'll give it a go - I'll try anything to be honest, but I think it's time to move on. I've never done this key thing to find faults. Could someone please explain? Thanks Woodie
  14. Engine management light would come on when i had gearbox fault. Mine needed a new gearbox ecu & solenoid. Management light will clear itself once problem is fixed.
  15. I must say in fairness that the garage i use is the old fashioned grease & oil type. Not much fancy stuff on show, just bits of engines laying around. They will do the investigation etc if i want them to, but as said, it will get expensive. If it needs a new engine I'm looking at about £1000 by the time its fitted & the cars worth what maybe £2000 at most? No guarantee the 'new' engine will go on for ever as its going to be a used unit & you just don't know how it was looked after. We were thinking about chopping the voyager in soon anyway, its just a bit disappointing it had to end this way as now i have no part ex option.
  16. My GV has been at the local garage for over a week now & yesterday i got the call i was dreading Seems that despite their best efforts they can't get her running. They suspect the timing belt has slipped somehow, but without further extensive & reasonably expensive investigations they can't tell for sure. So we've reluctantly decided to offer it for sale as a spares or repairs job. Its far too good a car to just scrap. Its just had new discs & pads on the front & new pads on the back about a month ago. Until this it started first time every time. The morning it broke i started it & it ran for a couple of seconds then stopped but never got above idle speed so i just don't know if there is any damage or not. I would suspect not but I don't have the time or skill to find out Will go on ebay in the next day or so - my user name there is the same as here if anyone is interested. Would need transporting as its a non runner & auto. Had gearbox ecu & solenoid changed last year so that another common fault no one would have to worry about. Got virtually new tyres on the front - less than 6 months old & decent ones on rear. We'll have to see how it goes on eBay, but even the non running GV's on there seem to be selling so I'm hopeful. Everything worked as it should before & its a ltd xs stow & go so has all the bells & whistles -even an updated sat mav disc. Woodie
  17. I do mainly town driving / school runs & i average about 23 mpg which is what my comp says. Mate of mine has a disco & he does a spread sheet on his fuel consumption & how much per litre it is ay various filling stations & enjoys telling me how he averaged 34.7782 mpg on a run from some place to another. I just tell him lifes too short & how when i see the fuel gauge is low i put some in & drive it.
  18. Had a look at doing this but found the old drive belt has disintegrated and wrapped itself around the power steering pump & i just can't get underneath it enough to get it out. Been down to local garage & they're going to pick it up tomorrow & have a look at it for me. Hopefully its just the drive belt as if its much more it could get expensive. Once its done it'll be a spruce up & then its going to be someone elses problem as we've decided to get something else. Thinking about it we don't really need the 7 seats any more as we've needed them once in the last couple of years & with Mrs W getting a new Mini Countryman in about 6weeks & son #1 well on the way to passing his test - he's pased his theory & already has a the vw golf I'm using at the moment - so won't be long before he becomes the family taxi. Be a bit sad to see it go as we've owned for t for nigh on ten years now, but maybe its just run its course & time to move on.

  20. Really peed off now. Finally spoke to my local chrysler indie only to find out he's given it all up. He does the odd bit here & there but nothing big. He did give me some advice & told me how to get the aux belt on & that the car may not be starting because the aux belt is off. The other thing that's really peed me off is this afternoon when we went out I found that someone has hit my rear bumper. They've done a real job on it & it's beyond repair. Another expense I could really do without. Will get it going & in mean time look out for a bumper that's not too expensive. Thought I'd found one on ebay but on closer inspection it's in almost as bad a nick as mine now is.
  21. Have you checked your fuel filter? Had similar happen to me but fortunately at much lower speed!! Chrysler diagnosed fuel injector problem - turned out to be blocked fuel filter
  22. Have you checked your gearbox fluid level? Start there before looking for a new torque converter. Might be worth getting the gearbox serviced & having new fluids & filters & the gearbox cooler flushed. As for upur other issues there's loads of videos on YouTube showing how to fix most stuff on these -you just need to remember that in the states these are called a town & country.
