  1. Not sure what's causing your problem but if it is the indicator stalk its easy enough to change that - its a couple of torque screws from memory & you should find one on ebay for reasonable money
  2. Well I'm hoping I haven't done much / any damage as it never went above idle speed before cutting out. I have an indie specialist pretty close to me who's sorted a couple of problems & he's very reasonable, his only trouble being he's a one man band & is always stacked with work so you just have to wait your turn. Bit inconvenient as we really need both cars, but son#1 is looking for his first car at the moment and we've spotted one that I'm going to see if I can have a look at tomorrow & as he's not passed his test yet I can use that until mines done if I throw in a few free driving lessons from the dad school of motoring.
  3. Hmm - think i may well have a bigger problem. Got in today to take it the short hop to my local garage & it started then stopped. Can't get it going now & it doesn't even try, just turns over. Think it might have done the cam belt. It is due a new cambelt & i had planned it for next month anyway. Only hope that as it was only idling its not done any damage. Trying to get hold of my local chrysler indie but he's always so busy he doesn't get to answer his phone & once its booked in I'll have to get it transported but again its only a few miles. Hope its not going to be too expensive, but it will be what it will be
  4. And waited for the orange light to come on before trying to insert the disc
  5. Mine is the diesel so looks awkward. Might have a look in the morning. It's a short trip to the local garage I use on Monday if I can't get it done. Thanks for your replies
  6. Funny noise coming from under the bonnet & after a look it seems my aux drive belt has disintegrated. Had a new one fitted when tensioner replaced about 18 months ago so it's only done about 15000 miles. Anyone changed this belt. Wondering if it's one I can do or is it a trip to the garage? Am resonably competent with a packet of spanners
  7. I had all the lights bar one fail on my rear wiper/ heated seats switches so I found a new switch bank on eBay for £25 & just swapped the whole unit out. Took about 20 minutes. Is a tad annoying the cruise buttons don't light up especially as these weren't cheap vehicles new.
  8. Check your battery. These things eat batteries and any drop in voltage & the needles start to bounce & dash lights don't come on. New battery from a motor factors is about £45.
  9. Well it went in today. Needs new discs & pads on the front as they are now on the limit & are quite badly corroded on the inside. New pads on the rear as these are now wafer thin although discs are ok for now but advised will probably need replacing with next set of pads. The rears are apparently a real pain to do as you have to replace the handbrake shoes as well. My handbrake has never been that effective & it just scrapes through the mot each year. Had it rebuilt couple of years ago for the mot. Be a few quid when it goes back in on Wednesday to have it done but money well spent
  10. Thanks - just glad you got it sorted & running again
  11. I don't get any abs faults but get a slight grumble that sounds like it comes from under the off side passenger door when turning left occasionally. It's always puzzled me what it was. Goes as soon as I straighten up & only happens every now & then. Can s going i
  12. Pop the plastic covers off with a small screw driver & take the bulbs out.
  13. Hi Was wondering how long you guys think a set of discs should last on these vehicles? Mine have done 120,000 miles now, which to my mind seems a lot. Had them measured last time I had new pads installed a couple of years ago & they told me they were well over the minimum width. It's going in on Monday for new pads & was thinking it's probably time for some new discs as well.
  14. Had this a couple of years ago. Have a look at the starter motor - it's down between the radiator & the engine - & check to see if their is a yellow cable with a spade connector on it. It's a common fault that this comes off. It's the signal cable from the ignition to tell the starter motor to fire. In the trade they call it the exciter cable. If your arms are too big to fit down as mine are you can see it from underneath & feel where it attaches. Hope it's as simple a fix as mine was in the end. I trawled a few things online before my daughter-in-laws uncle who is a Renault mechanic looked at it for me &I had it going in under a minute
  15. As Andyb says the revs are limited to 2500 when not in gear. I've owned quite a few autos as Mrs Woodie has an auto only licence & this is the only vehicle that's had a rev limiter on it for neutral. Not sure why chrysler thought they had to put this on but they must have had some reasoning behind it.
  16. Had similar but not exactly the same. Had it diagnosed by chrysler as an injector fault so took it to injector specialist who tested suspected fault & found it to be a clogged fuel filter.
  17. It's a series 4 as you say -2001 on. My rear shocks are I would guess about 70mm diameter. Possible yours could have been swapped out at some point & smaller units installed. I have a 2005 Ltd Xs. Has electric everything, dvd, sat nav etc. It's great for us as we have 4 kids - 3 teenagers & one still in primary school. We've looked at other 7 seaters but none have the same seating layout etc apart from a newer gv & neither of us like the styling of the series 5 as it's just too boxy.
  18. Do you have a voyager or grand voyager? The shocks on my current grand are a lot bigger than the ones on my old voyager although that was a series 3 & my grand is a series 4.
  19. First off - have you checked the nose weight of the caravan? I used to tow a twin axle bailey with my gv & it was always pretty level. I'm assuming your reasonably experienced with pulling your van so that should be quite easy. The other thing to check is the towing capacity on these vehicles isn't great, have you checked your vans weight against the permissable towing capacity? The other thing of course is carrying a whole bunch of stuff in the boot that you take along on your trip will push the rear end down. My van would pull the back down maybe 3 inches when I hitched it up, I thought that fairly normal. One last word of warning -if you are driving an auto - make sure you change the gearbox oil & if poss add a larger gearbox cooling rad. I blew my torque converter -a more common problem on these vehicles than you can imagine - & it made my wallet considerably lighter having it fixed. Had an uprated unit fitted at the time & not oem as this was recommended by my gearbox specialist who was a friend of a friend.
  20. I just go on what the display gives me. I don't have the time, patience, or inclination to work it out. I know a few people who have reams of spread sheets charting fuel consumption from the first time they ever put fuel in their austin a40, but i just can't be arsed to be honest.
  21. I got quoted silly money by a few places for a new cat section - kwik fit wanted £600+, ats £500+ - so took it to the local garage i always use who did it for £260 all in. He said it was a bit of a pain to do, but he got it done. Mine wasn't holed but was clanking so bad while idling that i couldn't hear Ken Bruce asking the questions on pop master.
  22. Sorry can't help with your problem but I'm wondering what mpg you guys get. My gv- 2005 2.8crd ltd xs with aux heater - averages about 24mpg. Always has. Will do 30+ on a long motorway jaunt but i do a mix of town & dual carriageway most of the time. is mine especially bad or is that about normal.
  23. Has anyone got a solution to the problem of the panels you lift up to store the seats in coming off their hinges? I've screwed the small screws back in countless times but they just fall out again. Same thi g happened on my mates gv so think it might be a common problem. The screws chrysler fit are laughably small & just not up to it as the panel hinges are quite stiff - especially now that i have to move them without the extra leaverage of the floor panel. Just another of those niggles that doesn't affect anything until you want to use it. Thanks Woodie
  24. My 2005 ltd xs stow & go may well be up for sale in February. Its done 118000. Had cam belt done at 66000 so will be due another soon probably within the next 6 months. I have a chrysler specialist near me who can do anything on these & has no quarms about ding a cam belt. its been our workhouse for the last 10 years. Been looked after well enough &never had an advisory on an mot apart from when i left child seats in the back so they couldn't test the seat belts. Would be selling as we are getting a motobility vehicle. Not sure if you allow ads in posts like this but if not i won't be upset if you delete this post.
  25. Does anyone else have the problem of the front wipers hitting each other & becoming entangled? Happened to me a few times now & it invariably results in me needing at least one new wiper blade. I've now changed the passenger side from a 26" to a 24" to see if that aliviates the problem. Just curious as to whether its just me or a more common fault.
