  1. Delia has been to see Mummy at the dealership. Battery off not attempted - as it would have lit up (possibly) the warning lights like a christmas tree. Put onto the computer diagnostics thingy, and it appears that one of the computers (of 14?) not talking correctly to one of the others that runs the display(s). So computer reset via the gizmo, and now working correctly. Free of charge, thank you Mr Dealership. (Time - took nearly an hour! - including test run to confirm working correctly). Penguin
  2. Hi All Have had a (worrying? / expensive?) issue with the car today. The centre display on dash and also the repeater in the odometer has been misbehaving. car details: 1.6 diesel SR The car is down to about half a tank of diesel - circa 300 miles left. Mileage on car 27500 miles. I have the trip set to Trip A all the time. So an mpg of approximately 50mpg is about correct. However, when subjecting the car to acceleration / deceleration today, the Trip A (not the Instant) value varies between 99.9mpg (maximum value on device) and 24.8 mpg. In 30 seconds or so, the mpg value can go from the lower to mid to high mpg or shuffled and vice versa. The Instant value varies as per normal - hence a thought of an issue on a pcb? Trip B behaves as per Trip A. Could it be a sender? or fuel flow device that is jammed? - rubbish expensive diesel from Sainshack? OR a software issue? OR a loose connection? OR pub problem? The mileage is correct - using a rough and ready guide to / from home to destination & return. Anyone else had a similar experience? Thanks in advance Penguin
  3. Dubious on this one. It would break the 'conformity' rules when the car is involved in an accident... I would stick with the original - if it is an automatic who not try right foot braking? This is advised with the motoring groups that I belong too. Disabled amputee drivers will only use their 'good' leg. Your left foot can then be placed on the cockpit floor. With webbed feet help ... Penguin
  4. This is a job that if you think it should be done .... it should be done. Rubber degrades with age and then mileage. Penguin
  5. My kids were notorious when travelling in back of cars... Just aimed full blasts of air through car from the vents, and even put up with road noise through open windows. Worse when they were over hot in a hot car ..... off came the clothes down went the air con temperature.... OK except when it was about -10oC coming back from north wales - lovely ice and we stopped over in Shrewsbury - having covered about 60 wish miles in eight hours. Before the bypass etc etc Next day shrewsbury waterfalls in river frozen solid, snow up and over - school moaned that i was not in, but the kids really enjoyed the extra two days of travelling down the A5 & M55 M6 and old lutterworth to home road (which is now 25 miles in 25 minutes home) that took over three hours. Grit lorries? Grit? Only a two cwt sack in the boot of the car along with a couple of paving slabs. Glad I did not get a puncture. Only redeeming fact - it was a red uno, a couple of years earlier I had rented a white one! Snow banks ... Penguins love white cars - but like to be seen by snow shifters Penguin
  6. the pollen filter has supposedly to be changed (have 30k miles on clock)in next service. Is this under the rhd pedals? Or in LHD footwell? Thanks in advance Sniffles coming on ... needs to attend to my smaller grade particles... Penguin
  7. Hi Went back to my dealer The instructions are not quite correct in handy book You have to work to set the B&Me via the phone switch on the steering wheel - not via the phone on the display screen on the console. thirty minutes of driving time, and fixed in 30 seconds! Tut Tut Penguin
  8. Dana and Trace Costs unknown, but ISTR Ed China quoted a save of £100 ash Costs to you time / fingers / cam belt / water pump (get the right one (bravos have many variants :-( ) If you watch Discovery Channel and faithful ED China - NO..... but he has a hot house to do his jobs. Comfortable mechanic in the outdoors? Rain?? You have to set up the ^ with the ^ should be set up spot on and covered in case of faulty line up ...... Personally - I would pay a few quid to a reputable back street man / or man in a service van, to do the job. Regards Peckish Penguin
  9. Have had to lash out and purchase a new iPhone. Shame they only last a 25 month service ... Have done the usual thing. RT(B)M Gone onto Google.... I cannot get phone to trigger any codes on console or on odometer.... No handsfree at the moment. Whilst I only ever get an odd phone call, after school on way home etc It would be good to talk rather than have to answer back an answer phone message (that costs me 33p + vat) and then the call Thanks in advance. Penguin
  10. I salvaged a bosch front drivers side wiper to replace the (defunct) wiper on the Fiat pool car that I had purchased two year ago (nearly) how time flies. I am now in the need of replacing both nearside and offside blades. I prefer to replace whole units - have been through the replace the rubbers, have better things to do with my time / finger nail breaking etc There are no code in the Mr AutoPArts Inc that I use (no 'C', Ypsilon, Neon or else .... :-( Any help gratefully accepted. Penguin
  11. You could try a product called RainX (?) they use it on rally cars - similar products will be available. It puts a coating on the glass that decreases the surface tension on the window, and allows water to stream off. You wipe it onto a clean window after a car wash etc ..... I had a look at my windows at 70mph driving down the main drag M1 and A road home last night. Apart from the mud sprayed up by the road works around M1 / A14 junction, the majority of the a water was pushed up and over the doors .... However, there was a significant amount of water that was dragged along under and just over the door mirror areas of both front window across most of the door glass. I wonder if it helps having the side vents blowing on the windows on the inside? I put some windscreen wash on, but as per usual it was washed off overnight at home. My Dad had the perspex ear flaps on an old A35 van ... They made it look like Dumbo. My sister often referred to going out in Dumbo, with Zep being the long distance car of choice, when all on board (5) a Ford Zephyr. Regards Penguin
  12. Same thing happens on my Delta, Bravo, Stilo .... and as far back as I can remember - not IIRC my Ford Cortinas. If I run the Delta screen wash at the recommended strength I end up with 'white' streaks as well across both my near & offside drivers windows. Wind deflectors look ugly in my opinion. The problem is due to the 'efficient deflection of wind' around the laminate surface of the car. i.e. the designers who have dialled in slippery-ness and thus increased the mpg. Water will be drawn into the wind flow as it rushes over the laminate surface of the car. Google 'laminate flow / smoke trials / testing'... In the old days, drip rails, windows that were not as wind efficient, etc would have contributed more to non-laminate flow - i.e. the water being dispersed around the various surface around the car - even over it by encouraging turbulent flow. Save the car from having wind deflectors, make the windows super clean - less water will then stick to them, and enjoy the peace & quiet.... Wind deflectors as per their name, deflect the wind - increase the inefficiency of distribution of the air, decrease the mpg and increase cockpit noise levels. Penguin
  13. Hi Mr Moderator Any chance of killing of the numerous spurious out of Chrysler passports commentaries that have appeared in Delta recencently? Its spoiling a really good newsgroup that many of us enjoy. Penguin
  14. Thinks you will have a lot of trouble and effort doing this for nil reward. Many establishments will only stamp at time of service. Many will probably state ' due to data protection' we cannot give out the details etc. This is obviously compensated in the price you have paid for your car. Add to that, as it is aaa 2007 - (if a computer = legacy computer in terms of age, how can you track via dealerships that have long upgraded their computer systems? Have you a history on the cam belt / pulley wheels or anything? Maybe, a better money spend in my opinion. DVLA are difficult to deal with, even given details.... Do you have the V5 - that way, at least you can contact the previous owner, assuming the the previous seller kept the V5 and did not convert it into a 'seller' paperwork. Penguin
  15. Hi J key word here is alternator - it produces AC (alternating current) which is rammed through a bridge rectifier that coverts it into DC for use in the car. If you start getting diodes (four big ones) that start to breakdown - heat, stress, usage .. age... et al, they will not behave as diodes anymore. The start to act as 'resistors' and play their own games. THE ELECTRICITY THEN STARTS TO FLOW IN THE WRONG DIRECTION, AND AS A RESULT + TO - ELECTRICITY COULD BE - TO + FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. as a result flicker...... Solved by replacement of diode block on alternator - but easier to replace whole starter / alternator / and peripherals. The diodes were accessible in my aged Ford Cortina Mk 3 but .... had to be cost effectively swopped out with a whole unit. S would be bale to get 6 or 12 mont W on the unit if you haggle. You can generally swop out units to a refurb place and get a good deal. OEM may prove to be more expensive. Stick to the OEM rating - don't over do, as it may eventually over charge your battery and cost you even more pound notes. (Good idea to check pulley wheels / stretcher pulley and fan belt condition if you replace yourself. Penguin
  16. Lots of simple bits to do. you state a fault, the abs light does not light up Is this on ignition start up? does the ABS light uo and then go out? If so correct.... Alt .... Check loom installation - voltmeter .... ABS sensor - swop left to right? work? Wires from ABS sensor take a lot of stick - close inspection ..... ABS rim on back of disc could be damaged. A diagnostic plug in at a dealer with his magic box should through up menu items. Well worth the few quid it costs.... Hope you get it sorted. Remember as it is a warning light it will generate an MOT failure these days :-( Always feel a car is happier with its own parts - worth seeing a back street man rather than that of a main service agent... Penguin
  17. Strong double sided tape - about 2 x 2 inches, cut into a disc will suffice. Check that it is frost proof tape - else it will fall out when the air temperature gets to the chilly side later in the year.. Penguin
  18. Hi Excellevent I suffered same on my Bravo years ago. The tags are for heating the mirror. A new (OEM) mirror will / should have tags on it. IIRC the tags are / maybe slightly different sizes(?) but as it is basically a heater it does not matter which tag is which if not. The motor connections are further back in the hub - so unless the whole mirror assembly is smashed its a simple replacement. **Be aware of the broken glass splinters - use a vacuum cleaner first to remove any shards of glass etc To remove the old glue patch, meths or alcohol & a scraper required. Allow some time to allow alcohol to evaporate, before using the new supplied patch on mirror & clip. You can make a carrier to position new mirror by looping around some strong thread at both sides of the mirror - line up and then push in centre. It does require a bit of a fiddle - but if not central, you cannot move mirror in the mirror housing. There is not a default 'central' position - it is very much hit and miss. (Fiat warned me of this). Also - don't do it over a tarmac / hard surface, as if you drop the new mirror - your next visit will be to the mirror seller. Put some form of 'softness under the door. Catching it is not an option. Fiat technician did this in front of me ..... need to say more, cleared second broken mirror up .... Penguin
  19. Hi Watto Have you checked fuel filter - sounds a bit like fuel starvation if its 2000rpm in every gear. Fuel lines OK? Grunge in the tank? Also is the condensate full? Penguin
  20. Bright stuff like this, is needless to say very saleable. Looking in the right places - scrap car players etc is unlikely, as most wrecks in the 300C category will probably be an insurance mans mendable. If its a front end hit / they will probably be very second or third hand. I must admit, if you are very wanting of the part - it may pay to ask an American based chum or Italian based chum to have a tweak in a Chrysler dealers locker. Alternatively, a phone call to your local C dealer may only be your best option. They most likely won't come with a budgie price - i.e. not cheep. Penguin
  21. I have a manual. Also much problems when I bought the car...... Hill hold for me ... Stop on >6 to 8% gradient Footbrake on Select first gear Release footbrake - accelerated pedal down to bite point Two seconds of time allowed to move off the bite point to motion of car. The microswitch / sensor control on mine was broken - it maybe the same on yours? Don't let this small bug put you off.... Its a brilliant car, once bugs etc are sorted out. Check the threads in the Delta Forum. Regards Penguin
  22. A google on 'play an iPod or mp3 through the car stereo' comes back with many suggestions with a cassette based system. £3 quid on flea bay Following has info using fm transmitters / etchttp://www.tech-faq.com/how-to-connect-an-mp3-player-to-a-car-stereo.html Also could speak to the technician Kato at the bit part spares shop - my friend had a USB socket hardwired into her go faster car replacement for a tenner & parts - nothing special - ten minute jobby. A usb 'hole' in a round housing - wit a bit of bling... fitted at home.... twenty squid and a bottle of beer. Penguin
  23. Need more information on this Roger... Service history? Mileage per week? Long / short runs .... Penguin
