Question

Hi all. Just a quick post about fuel system cleaners. I use bg244 diesel engine cleaner. Or for petrol BG44K. I can highly recommend this product as iv used both products and found good results example quieter engine and smoother and a few mpg more. For more information on this product take a look at

Powerenhacer.co.uk

They also do many other treatments and cleaners for all applications

Hope this post helps others when looking for cleaners that work.

My view. To try a fix for a specific problem. and very occasional use only, if for example you can't afford to have known to be dirty injectors in the particular cleaned properly. Older motors say earlier than 02, and those who live in Kazakhstan and can only get hold of non-regulated dirty fuel may also benefit from mechanic~in~a~can products after the 02 year. Enhanced fuel and improved injector design have largely done for the myth of fuel and particularly oil additives. A 10 minute Italian tune up will usually do the same job. The bottom line is no manufacturer in the history of man ever recommended the use of a fuel additive, and most manufacturers specifically warn against its use. Best of luck.

How is it shell fuels use cleaning agents in there fuel development. And its on all there adverts when advertised on tv. So are we not supposed to use shell fuels

HiYa Daz,

Yes precisely because our forcourt fuels already have the additives in them. So yes all fuel in the UK and most developed countries is regulated - so you are already using additives, in fact you can not buy fuel without the additives already in them.

The 'premium' brands for example have even more additives in them, of course they cost 12 to 14p more per litre, add another £24 per fill up for your BG244 and that's one hell of a price for a tank of fuel. That's why It's 'snake oil' for most of the driver population - because it costs a mint and does not work. It's your car Daz, your choice. Take care !

Hi guys, My GV's are both LPG.

But on the diesel subject I have a 9 year old Renault Master van that I've had from new. Long wheel base high roof - big rascal.

Weighs in a 3.1 tons with my kit in it, and does 35mpg on a run, 30 round town. (Less in winter)

I use Millers diesel enhancer.

And it was backed up by unprompted comment from my local diesel injection specialist - who doesn't sell it - how he can tell the difference when they are working on a system that has used it.

It's now called diesel power ecomax - branding upgrades!!

Engine is slightly smoother with it (no matter who's fuel it's running - supermarket or big brand) and a couple more mpg.

When I run out and have been without for as short while it just doesn't feel quite as "nice".

A 500ml bottle at around £9 treats 500 litres.

And at each MOT test the emissions are very low, never yet a problem on the smoke test, always a long way under the limit, nearly nothing.

Yes it does get "an Italian tuneup" on occasion. But however it also does a lot of short work depending where my work is that week.

Another bloke I know who runs a specialist black cab maintenance garage suggested "Cataclean" for one off cleans.

Made a couple of MPG difference to our newest GV when we first got it and was still on petrol for a while.

And if a manufacturer dared to recomend one additive I would guess the others may just have something to say about it, and then of course questions would be raised as to why their engines aren't good enough without it, why are they saying fuel isn't good enough, etc.

Hi bignev

There are alot out there who think an italian tune up is the way to go lol. Well why would you want to thrash your car to an inch if its life just to blow a small amount of crap out of the exhaust. well the problem is that is only a short term solution. The diesel we buy these days have a small and percentage of bio.which over time causes a wax build up in the system and also crystallisation around injection system. So thats why there are specialists cleaners to help remove these deposits. I use the same as you nev. I also use millers. As it gives back the cetane which is missing from fuel because of bio. So i also get a smooth running engine less diesel knock and a couple of mpg more. Which to be honest the book says 29mpg. Mine does 31.5. So not complaining with that
