  1. In my opinion, there's something else wrong, such as an air-flow meter or a sensor, this is presuming that everything else is in order, such as spark plugs and fuelling???

My wife's Delta 1.4 multiair turbo does urban and town driving mostly and gets 9lt/100kms consistently and has been as low as 4.9lt/100km on a cross country open road run

  2. Hi Guys,

A little late but never too late. For future readers and reference I let you know that my problem has been solved.

Despite her perfect looks when bought, the car needed som serious maintenance like rubbers and control arm included cam belt change and tires (Pirelli's).

The strange 'spaces' if felt when steering have disappeared.

    Cheers

    That's great news :-D

Glad you are sorted and enjoying the driving

  3. Got home from the rig and the nice people at Swansea have written to me. So right now I am the proud first ever owner of AP12 VXC!

Weirdly the V5 says 'first used elsewhere in the UK', which - if you've been following this - we know is B-S & is what caused all the faffing about in the first place; Guernsey isn't in the UK or EU.

Never mind, tomorrow will transfer the GAS plate over & that is finally that!

    Well done Mike!!!

Everything comes to he who waits

  4. Oooohh headlight washers - does that mean it has the fancy turning light thingys?

    How technical :-D

    They're actually called gizmos!!!

I think if cars have xenon lights and poly-eliptical light lenses, they're required by European law to have a means to wash the lights, so it might not mean that this car has the 'see around corner lights'???

(Look at the technical terminology I use!!!) :-D

  5. Hi Nico, and welcome to the club!

The Navi unit will require the loom as the connections will be different. Unfortunately most used units don't come with any wiring, so you'll find it difficult to install.

My advice would be to go for a good quality branded aftermarket unit instead as it will be much more straight forward to fit.

    +1

  6. I need to do the front discs and pads on mine, I see EBC have a kit for the 1.6 Multijet with Bosch calipers.

I guess this means there could be different ones depending on the age of the car?

There could even be different calipers on each side of the car, depending on which box was where, on the production line!!!

I had a Punto 1.9 jtd which had a Girling on the left and an ATE on the right, same discs, but I had to get a set of each type when I changed the front pads

  7. I would clean and grease the inner cv joints (gearbox side) before condemning the outer (wheel side) cv joints.

The inners have been known to cause the same effects and noises of outer cv joint wear ;-)

Also, dry inner joints can cause shuddering through the car on uneven roads

  8. Wow what a cheap car that was! Even in basic SE spec that's still a bargain!

The market perception of cars always makes me laugh! I still stand by the fact that the Delta IS a better car than the Giulietta! ...and that's coming from someone who loves Alfas!

It's funny you should say that as I have driven the Delta equivalent (1.4 turbo) Giulietta in both left and right hand drive and I found the rhd more uncomfortable due to the lack of a driver's clutch foot rest! A poor omission from what is marketed as a driver's car :-(

  9. Over here in Ireland we have the National Car Test (NCT) which is broadly similar to the MOT, the guidance regarding warning lights is;

if it's on and should be off . . Fail

If it's off and should be on . . Fail

I can't remember a stop/start warning, unless it is specifically turned off at the button on the dash???

My wife's Delta, the stop/start has a life all of its own, sometimes it works and when you expect it to work, it doesn't :-(

  10. I've decided to change the fuel filter on my Delta; it looks as though it may never have been done. I've got a replacement from my local motor factor, a Bosch N2076 which looks to be very similar and says Fiat, Lancia, Alfa on the box. However, my original filter has a big black electrical connector on the bottom and the Bosch one doesn't.

Anyone any experience with this. I'm guessing the electronics are to warn when the filter needs changing, so if I keep to a 2 yearly filter change will there be any other issues?

You just screw the sensor out of the old filter and use the seal from the new filter to seal it QED

  11. We have Barum Bravuris3 on my wife's Delta, 205/55 x16 240 euros for a set of 4, fitted, balanced and new valves, good all round grip and very quiet on the road, I would recommend them

I have Pirelli P7s on the Tipo 225 45 x17 and at 70000 kms still going strong, although am going to fit a new pair on the front for the winter, 110 euros each

  12. Hi , I'm new here , I've owned my 1.4 M-Air Delta for nearly 4 years & have always had it serviced by the local FIAT specialists , but being an OAP finances are always an issue , so I'd like to do my own oil & filter changes to save money .

BUT....I can't find the filter ,it doesn't seem to be a canister type or if it is I can't find it !!!!! HELP !!

The Delta is such an underrated car, I don't care if J. Clarkson said "It's not even a very good car " , Top Gear, before he forgot how to behave like a reasonable human being...........no sign of a massive ego of course !!

Is there such a thing as a Haynes Manual equivalent ?

    Thanks DV62HMX

    Welcome along DV!

The oil filter is a cartridge type, with your knees at the front bumper, facing the engine, it's located under a plastic cover clipped in beneath it, you will need a ratchet, a long extension, a universal joint and a 27mm socket. You place the socket on the cover and screw off anti-clockwise, with a cloth beneath to catch the drips. The filter is used on many fiat and Lancia models and is listed on the Halfords catalogue (HAL 31) I think??? Only use the Fiat 'pure energy' (red can) oil which is specific for the multiair engine. Hope this helps

  13. Well here we are 3 months later and still no car.  The reasons given are many & varied though personally I don't understand what the problem is.  It seems if I continue with this car I will need to take it as it is & do the necessary myself to get it a UK registration.  Sticking point being the potential VAT due when I submit the NOVA application however.  They can claim it back, I can't.

However if we can agree something on that for me to take the car with its Guernsey plates I will need an EU certificate of conformity to avoid an IVA test - now lots of stuff online says it should be with the owner's manual but the seller says he doesn't have the certificate.  He does have the owner's manual as I looked at it when I viewed the car but I can't recall seeing the certificate.

Does anyone know if the EU CoC is in with the manual?  If it is, could I ask would anyone send me a good quality copy?

I reregistered a former UK delta in Ireland 3 years ago and I will take out the paperwork and see if there is an EU certificate of conformity number on there. Give me a day or two, to find and go through it!

  14. I'm guessing it's because the auto function is for the road tunnels found all over Italy......and you would not need main beam as they are lit.....and dazzling oncoming drivers in a tunnel, would not end well!.....just a thought.

    Ian

    +1 :-)

  15. Thanks Andrew - without having the wheels off yet - presume the caliper retaining bolts are fairly obvious ones? Also do you need any special kind of brake winder - I can get away with a flat bladed screwdriver on my X1/9?

2 flat bladed screwdrivers can work as well!!

If you use a screwdriver to lever back the pads in the caliper, before removal, you may not need to press back the piston, as it may be fully retracted.

1 small point, watch the brake fluid reservoir for level as you will be refilling that as you press back the piston
