3ddesign
Ive replaced the two frontnstruts with good ones from a breaker here in Newtonabbey. The passenger side wheel seems to be sitting tilted out at the bottom, but theres no slot in the strut for camber adjustment. Am i missing something ?Thanks
0 mikebh8
Hi, I have that problem where the two shock absorber's bolts come loose and the wheel assembly tilts...in my case needs new shock absorber but in your case try pulling or pushing the wheel assembly back in line( with the bolts loosen) Hope it helps. 0 3ddesign
Thanks, Itried that yesterday but theres not much play in the bolts. I had taken it to a local place to get aligned and they just cant seem to get it right. Ive mucked about now myself tweeking and atleast have it running straight and even. Of course now the cv joint is clicking after doing the other joint last week. It seems an endless one thing after the other with this car. Not much else to break on it ! 0 3ddesign
Not sure if it will work but i ordered camber bolts from rockauto. If it helps i'll post an update
0 bignev
Yep I share your experience on this. After a pair of complete stuts 2 places couldn't get them right. I had a word with a smaller local tyre guy who checked it, said it was only a tiny bit out and wouldn't usually say it needed touching (but steering not straight when driving straight) So after I said I appreciated his honesty but would like to pay him to try, he got a little bit on it and so far (6 months or so) so good. Done with the tiny amount of play in the slot in the bottom of the strut.
0 3ddesign
Mine dont seem to have the slots in the bottom hole. The camber bolts should give adjust3even without the slots. I design alot of machinery and the slot is usually a given !Just one thing im either imagining it or not but im convinced the front of the cars sitting lower than before. Any chance someone could throw a tape and measure the height of the wheelarch to the ground? Thanks
0 bignev
Yep you're quite right. It was surprising mine didn't have the camber bolts, to everyone. I'll stick a measure on mine when I get home later.
0 bignev
On mine floor to inside centre of wheel arch is 29"
0 gordy
Is the top hole not slotted like mine on the strut flanges. Must find that picture.
0 3ddesign
Def no slots, I took out all the bolts to double check and the old ones only holes as well. When I get the new bolts I'll fit and take to the local tyre place. They've always done a decent job
0 3ddesign
Mine seems 28" or there abouts, roads around here bad and it bottoms out quite a bit which is cracking me up. Will probably pass an mot ok ,but are these cars really that soft or do i need brand new springs or is there a way to stiffen the front end? Will probably pass an mot ok ,but are these cars really that soft or do i need brand new springs or is there a way to stiffen the front end? Many years ago, I was some rubber spacers that will fit between the spring's coils...I'm thinking getting it for mine. It will lift the car 5-10 cm.
0 3ddesign
I fitted the camber bolts and made a difference to the ride height, not sure how but the cars sitting better, will see better when i get the full camber and alignment done
0 3ddesign
This is wrecking my head, looking at same cars online and they definitely sit alot higher on the front struts. Are they adjustable or something?Im going to have to buy brand new strut assemblies to see if i can sort, the roads here are to bad to be running too low
0 bignev
At the 29" mine is on brand new complete strut assemblies with what seemed quality springs. These cars are heavy beasts, especially the diesel engine.
0 3ddesign
I guess theyve probably not bothered uprating the springs when they fitted the heavier diesel engine !I woukdnt get away with that caper in my line of work !
0 bignev
From what i remember when searching for mime - they are actually different!!!! But they obviously perhaps must not be designed for long life span :- )
0 3ddesign
They must be, looking on rock auto there do seem some different coil type in the different struts from different suppliers. Comparing mine to most on autotrader its definitely low, but the money ploughed into it the last month ill get it MOT'd and do the springs later
0 3ddesign
I've finally got the camber and alignment set which was a faff. Not sure why but it has raised the ride height of the car. Now measuring 30" from ground to top inside radius of wheelarch.
0 gordy
Ah finally found the picture of when my front strut was removed. Its the bottom hole on strut that's elongated for adjustment to camber.

0 QinteQ
- used a capable M18 + big battery, lotsa high rothenburger gas, black grade socket and a scafee bar over a 1 yard snap on bar, did it but it was a pig, even with 5 spring compressors couldn't get them down so i had to borrow a foot operated automotive hydraulic commercial spring compressor, you would never know / see how bad they were till you completely disassemble ! bignev and gordy
