Noise When Coming Off Throttle At Around 1500-2000 Rpm

Question

Hi,

I am getting an issue. Sounds like mechanical air escaping/ stick being dragged along the floor sound when coming off throttle mainly in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears. Sometime I get a bit of breif drop in power accompanied with it, Just a split second.

Garage have checked it and have said it is not the turbo and is a characteristic of the car, I am finding this hard to believe as it never did it a couple of months ago and seems to be getting more regular.

It happens virtually all the time on soft acceleration (town driving) when the car is warm.

Any ideas as it is doing my head in. :)

Hi,

Garage have said it is a characteristic, but its getting worse. I can get it to do it on demand.

Accelerate slowly upto around 1800 1500 rpm and you will start to hear a little chatter, take my foot of the gas quick and you get the sound.

It is really bugging me, sounds like something to do with the turbo?

Are you sure its not the wastegate? That makes a chatter-like sound on lift-off. I get that on mine but am used to Turbo/Supercharged cars.

What engine do you have?...... If so the garage are correct and its completely normal. Its the noise of excessive pressure being released in to the exhaust by the wastegate opening.

Every car i have had since 2003 (around 10) have been turbo cars. Non have them have made this noise. Sounds like darth vader with a cold, like another poster I do get the occasional misfire now / turbo cutting out while it does it.
