  1. Just a note to confirm that the Delta can be locked without the battery charged or on. I copied page 89 from my owners manual that shows how to lock the car when there is no battery power. I actually did try this on my front passenger door and it works. The key cannot be inserted all the way into the slot shown - all that is required is the tip of the standard key inserting and the slotted insert can be rotated around 45 degrees and the door will be locked once closed. This was prompted by a post on anther group and I hope it helps somebody out. I also hope I remember it.. Best, Frank B
  2. I briefly saw a Delta (I think..) in a Preston car park today as I tried to turn around having lost my way, again. Is there anyone on this forum in the Lancashire area? Best, Frank B
  3. Has anyone on the group changed the cambelt on a 1.6l Multijet? If so, what locking kit did you use, and where did you source you cambelt/new pulley/water pump from? Best, Frank B The above is a Shorter version of my previous post which got no replies at all. I guessed most people fell asleep before they got to my actual question!
  4. Hi to all owners on this great site on a rather cool UK weekend. Weather notwithstanding, I am hoping to do a cam belt change on my 1.6l Multijet soon. Can I ask what brand of locking tool set owners have used with success, and if possible the part number/ident/supplier. I have been lurking on this group for a while, receiving valuable help from some great owners before buying a 1.6l diesel Delta, but now I have actually got the car, I am struggling to identify a crank/cam locking set that is not described as "universal" or for the JTD only, or just plain wrong. The only one that I have found so far that looks the part is the Laser tools 5719 set. But the emphasis on the JTD in the adverts makes me wary. I believe I am correct in saying that on the M-Jet the two camshafts are geared together internally, with the single timing belt drive sprocket to the cam gear on the outside of the cam cases. The method for locking the M-Jet cams is by inserting a pin into the cam case, locating in a hole for that purpose in the camshaft, whereas the JTD has two external timing belt pulleys. Hence the need to slacken the single timing belt pulley on the camshaft to allow the belt tension (and timing therefore) to be set correctly without the internal camshaft gearing being involved in any way. If any of the above is wrong, which it may well be, please enlighten me. All of the above has been gleaned from reading online "information" and of course, we all know that is never wrong.. I have not had the opportunity to open up the belt covers or do anything else much on the car due to having a new hip fitted, so now that I am at least limping around on one stick, I an hoping to prepare for the belt job in advance. I am also wary about buying "genuine" Gates/Contitech.etc., timing belt, tensioner pulley and water pump from fleabay, so any steers in the direction of parts suppliers who are know not to sell cloned or snide would be welcome. I have seen various companies advertised, but any more recommendations from owners who have actually had good experiences and most welcome. Best, Frank B
  5. Many thanks for the reply. And please accept my apologies for my not being able to post back to thank you. Without labouring the point, I screwed up my password and multiple reset attempts did not work... I am better with spanners than computers, honest... Now back to the very valuable help you have posted. I did not know about AutoLusso and did not think about looking for Alfa specialists, rather than Chrysler. The people I did speak to were Fiat agents and as main agent do, want to charge top dollar for everything. The tip about the gearbox oil is valuable as I have not read that anywhere. I also did not know it was the multijet that was fitted to the Insignia. I had heard bad things bout the pump suction pipe seal on Insignias, but have no idea what models were affected. As usual, only those unfortunate enough to have problems howl about it, so it is probably a very small percentage of cars that have a problem. However, if it is your car, that is a disaster. The auto I had looked at has either been sold or the owner has decided to keep it. All the other auto cars I have seen have been at least 200 miles away from me until recently. I have found one nearby that has problems and the owner wants too much for a dead car, otherwise I might have taken a punt. I have tried to help him out, but by now I probably know only enough to be dangerous. He has a transmission not available after first having intermittent problems with the 'box. I have posted a screenshot he sent me. I will keep looking for an auto, a good time as people are now starting to get rid of second cars. Thank you once again, I have read a lot of your posts with great interest and I came to the conclusion you know what you are doing. There is no substitute for the voice of experience! Best, Frank B
  6. Can a moderator help me out please. I was been locked out of my account and used the regain password function. However, when I got the password reset notice in my email, pressing the button in the email did nothing. I have somehow got back in to the forum via an old email and I have opened a new account with a new password, but I thought I had better tell the mods that the reset thing did not work. I have posted a screenshot of the email I am talking about. Best, Frank B
