  1. Hi I need to sell my PT Cruiser as spares or repair / salvage due to a broken gearbox. The car is a 2005 2.2 Limited CRD with a little over 132,000 miles on the clock. In the two years I've owned it I've had a lot of the front suspension replaced, had a new red top battery, a new multifunction headlight switch and had just had two new tyres when the gear box went in November. I'd also fitted a second hand Witter tow bar but hadn't got around to having the electrics connected. I've had it serviced regularly and had just had the egr valve cleaned and refitted. It's a series 1 car in purple metallic with both keys and both remote key fobs, has all the Limited chrome and leather plus the electric glass sun roof. There are a few small scuffs on the bumper corners from previous owners but otherwise the body is good, clean and rust free. Everything was working before the gearbox failed, including air con and cruise control. The only other known faults are I was going to replace the thermostat as it has been running cold. Also something in the fan circuit has now started to overload the wiring since putting it in storage. I don't have the funds or know how so am having to sell. The car isn't driveable due to the gear box problem so will have to be trailered. Currently in storage near Southam, Warwickshire. Open to offers.
  2. Hi I've had my Cruiser nearly two years and love it despite having to replace what seems like most of the suspension, the multi function light switch and the battery that was killed by the fog lights coming on by themselves. The current problem seems more serious. The drive wheels locked up with the car in reverse gear and the clutch in. The car wouldn't come out of gear at first but wrestled it into neutral. From there it wouldn't select any gear initially but eventually got it going to drive it home. Next day there was gear oil on the passenger side suspension arm. The garage took it in and removed the gearbox end plate where it was leaking. A bolt has spun out of one of the shafts. They tightened it up but said there's no lock tab or pin to it (tightens into the bore of the shaft so nowhere for one to go). They said it would probably work loose again - maybe a day maybe a year so not to trust it and the best solution is a good second hand box. I'm wary - if this is a common fault I may end up with a big bill and another duff box. One morning I took the car out of the garage and found 1st and 2nd had become reverse gears! It hasn't happened since but obviously I can no longer use the car. Any advice, please? I've spent a fair bit of time and money on the car so don't want to scrap it if I can avoid it.
  3. Hello. Have had my PT Cruiser nearly two years. I've muddled along ok but think if I'd known this forum was here there would have been less head scratching. It's a beautiful car and I've been besotted despite the technical hiccups. Suffering gearbox problems since before Christmas so heading over to the PT Cruiser section with my woes. Mitch
