ForzaLancia got a reaction from bignev in Delta 1.6 MJ Multiple Issues. Maybe I bought a lemon?
    Hi,
David Evans off the Facebook Group.
If the pic was from the back of the car I am sure that broken rubber concertina part is the handbrake cable gaitor!
When was the autobox last calibrated? A long time since my two selespeeds but I imagine they re not that different but it made a big difference.
No sure on the knock, could be anything suspension or steering related.
Low oil pressure could also be from using the wrong oil or from a faulty sensor.
There is AutoLusso in Bournemouth or Rusper Alfa near Haywards Heath who are Alfa specialists and will know the autobox as it is the same a Giulietta. Also Sussex Alfa in BN6. which may be nearer.

It will be the spindles that connect the actuator motors to the direction and heat flaps. They get brittle over time and snap, about £8 each but quire a lot of dismantling to get to. Same as a Fiat Bravo and there are some YouTube videos, much worse if LHD though. Replace as many as you can while it's in bits.

Hi, sorry to here of your issues, there are two decent Alfa garages in your area, Alfa Workshop and AutoLusso, both well respected in Alfa circles. Many parts are shared with the Giulietta so should be straightforward for them. What has caused the failure? Have you had water leak onto the module?

    Hi, welcome

Not sure if there is a buyer guide, but mechanically the car is similar to a Fiat Bravo II and both seem fairly reliable. The engines are used across a wide range of FCA products from Alfas to Fiat 500s and seem fairly robust and economical. The car is made in Italy but do not expect a thrill a minute Integrale experience, this Delta is more refined and almost an Italian Rover or Audi. The main issue is that people, even car buff do not have a clue what it is although passengers in mine seem quite impressed once inside. Have a search on Instagram for how good they do look inside and out.

That 'identity crisis' does make the car hard to price. There are only 900 or so on British roads so some are priced on how they look which can be high (see the £4k one on ebay, looks great) or quite cheaply as there is no real demand. At auction they will typically sell for around £1500. All cars are around 8 years old so expect some wear although mine at 123k miles is holding up rather well. Budget £300 or so for a cambelt at least.

Living with it is not a straight forward as Golf, indicator click is stupidly quiet, you have to fold the rear seat down to remove the parcel shelf as the tailgate is smaller than the shelf, no obvious place to put glasses or phone. The feedback from the road is set more toward isolation that the involvement of an Alfa, not as crisp and direct, but more refined. The radio is a let down, trim can be plasticy in places too.

On the plus side the driving position is good, engines have decent poke, the body shape still looks crisp and modern and owners of similar sized Mercs, Audis and BMWs do not have a clue what has zoomed past them. Get a remap and take on bigger cars, readily available as the engines are Alfa/Fiat. Parts cheap too for the mechanical stuff, just don't damage the body or interior.

The one pictured is a base spec with an even more unloved semi auto gearbox with high is miles, at auction it would have been around £1k, OK for basic transport with a good discount but if the autobox goes wrong few will know how to fix, and probably due a belt change.

Now is a good time to get a Delta, market depressed, little demand, confused identity, but reliable basics, distinctive looks, nice colour combinations, smart interior, no signs of rust and prices rock bottom. Seek the best specced one you can find and haggle.

Alpine on here was looking to buy a 1.4 petrol, just a few posts down from this one. As a guide on price, they do vary a lot but they only sell around the £2k mark. Dealers put all sorts of prices on the screen and they are there for months.

On Facebook market place last year there is a guy selling a 1.6 diesel with a sunroof for £5000 in a private sale, and he refused my then offer of £2500. Guess what? got one for £2250 within a month and his is still up for sale and overpriced at £3500 a year later.

£2000 is a starting point, a bit more if it has nice wheels, leather and navetc , a bit less if it is a base model with none of that stuff and no history.

a bit of a thread revival, but I have the following watch out to add

the wind back process is different for each side Unlike most Italians I have come across where the piston going back into place clockwise, these Bosch pistons go clockwise for the drivers side and anti clockwise for the passenger side. It took me ages and c=a check on the Bravo forum to see where I was going wrong on the passenger side as my wind back tool is made to go clockwise, a new tool has to be bought that can go both ways, or else use brute force without the collar to get it to go the 'wrong way'.

I've done a bit of research on KYB springs and there are several spring types. Firstly, nothing mentioned for Lancia Delta of our vintage, so over to the Bravo section, and there are two types of rear spring (sport and regular) and five fronts (sport regular plus varying engine weights to support)

    1.4 base          Front      RH3906     Rear      RH6389
    1.4 T-Jet                        RH3907                   RH6389
    1.4 T-Jet Sport              RH3910                   RH6437
    1.6 Diesel                      RH3908                   RH6389
    2.0 Diesel                      RH3909                   RH6437

Dampers are more straightforward and are in the Lancia section

    Rears  all models                                            343826
    Fronts  2.0 (1.9 twin turbo and 1750TB)         339786
                all 1.4 petrols and 1.6 diesels             339785

I also got a wiper motor assembly from a Bravo for £30 (from £300 but £150 elsewhere) as the spindles on mine are worn and occasionally the wipers hit each other on full speed.

And some key covers as mine look like a dog has chomped them, £20 but that much elsewhere for one.

I have always felt my 2.0 was lacking a bit of Italian oomph, now I have found the reason why.

While changing the EGR cooler which was leaking  (and a common problem it seems) I found a blue silicon pipe that was looking old, tired and possible split. In removing it the pipe crumbled into three parts, it was indeed past its best. It seems this pipe is a vacuum pipe and goes to some sensor/valve type thing (maybe VNT valve) and it replacement has resulted in restoring many lost stallions and a 4mpg improvement. Driveability has improved with turbo lag reduced and application of the brakes as smoother and does not grab when braking lightly, I guess it was affecting the servo somehow.

Tricky little thing to get at though as it is barely visible and not sure on the best way the reach it without removing the EGR cooler which is a PITA, guess there is a way though.

Anyway, two pics, first is general area, look for a metal pipe and union at approx 45 degrees in the centre of the pic, and behind that is the blue silicone pipe, although the old one had gone milky blue/white with age.

Your glasses cannot fit in the cup holder area

The drivers window switches are too far forward so I still end up lowering the rear one

The front seat belts stalks are too short and don't stick up far enough to find easily

They have left the handbrake on the left side so the other half's coat or handbag drapes over it
