Nello
Anyone else experienced this? Mine does not seem to want to open despite the doors all being unlocked. Supposed to lock/unlock off the same system.I have actually had to result to leaving the Red emergency cable exposed in the rear boot now to manually pull open? 0 MikeyRules
Can't say I have, although to be honest I've only filled up once! The cap does seem a little flimsy though... Have you tried some loob? Or is it and electrical problem? Edited December 15, 2014 by MikeyRules
0 Nello
Its not unlocking Mike so must be something to do with the release sensor mechanism..........
0 MikeyRules
How have you got on Neil? Have you managed to sort it?
0 Nello
Not had chance to check yet Mike so still utilising the red emergency pull - Will update findings here of course!
0 Nello
Still not sorted this out yet but not really looked - Does anyone have the Service disc? Eper does not even show a relay to release the flap within the mechanism which I find strange? Edited February 5, 2015 by Nello
0 stuartmunn
I have similar issue ... Will be investigating this weekend... will let you know how I get on. Stuart
0 Nello
Nice one Stuart - I'll let you do the digging! So you having to utilise the red emergency boot release as well then?
0 stuartmunn
Well I just bought the car and it didnt come with a handbook. I guessed there must be a emergency release somewhere ... but couldnt find it ... the fuel cap did finally come open ... so I was OK this time ... I just worried that it would happen when my wife was out in it and I'd get an emergency call out from her ! So for my own sake I need to fix it
0 Nello
Theres a full online copy of the handbook here: https://srs20assets.service-solutions.com/OEM/Chrysler/en-US/Product/2012Delta1stOMPDF/Flipbook/index.html Pull down the offside inner boot flap/panel and theres a red wire/pull to emergency release/open the flap until you get it sorted. Page 154 shows it............I find it works best by simultaneously pulling with your left hand and whilst pulled flick open the filler lid with your right. 0 Nello
Stuart I had a quick look at mine yesterday after 'reading' a comment or two on the Delta Italian FB page. The guy there was bonding a small circle of tubing to the flap so that where it meets the release switch - the area is more 'pronounced.' This led me to believe that there must be an issue with the flap loosening and coming away from the bodywork ever so slightly - meaning its not near enough to be released when you try to open. I manoeuvred mine slightly and applied pressure to the hinge and the flap opens and closes ok - for now at least! I'm sure I may need to investigate how the flap is secured within the bodywork but its done the trick for the moment... I've had no chance to investigate mine yet .... busy times at the moment ... Last fill up pulling the red cord didnt make a difference resorted to thump with my had seemed to work. I had a S Type jag with similar issue ... so its not just restricted to Deltas ....
0 Nello
The trick with the red cord is its a two handed operation. Pull the cord with your left hand and whilst still pulling flip open the filler lid with your right. It holds open the release but only whilst being pulled. Just wiggle the flap hinge and push in to the bodywork - takes 5 seconds..............Mines still ok!
0 stuartmunn
Guys my fuel cap is working ok I was just being a bit too gentle with it a firm push in the centre and it opens ok. The whole flap is a bit flimsy I think ... the rest of the build quality of the car seems really good... .

It is really flimsy and you do have to be firm with it as you say. I must admit I don't remember the Ipsylon's I hired in Italy being like this? I wonder if they are having similar issues? 0 stuartmunn
I much prefer a lever in the drivers compartment to open a fuel flap... there are too many gadgets on modern cars !
0 MikeyRules
I much prefer a lever in the drivers compartment to open a fuel flap... there are too many gadgets on modern cars ! Yeah all my Alfa's have had a fuel release lever and to be fair I never had any issues with them...The only car that was a bit weird was my MX5 roadster coupe with the folding hardtop. The lever was hidden inside the centre console glove box which is on the rear wall of the cabin so you had to get out and reach in to grab it unless you had double jointed elbows! 0 Rossocorsa
I just clobber the fuel flap firmly which is how the dealer I bought it from showed me to do it, never really given it any thought always thought it was ok tbh.
0 vincey832
Hi Nello,I've had the same problem with my fuel cap and as Rossocorsa says I've always tapped the cover with the heel of my hand, never thought anything of it as its Fiat family!! Delta doing really well, 45,000+ mls at present, nothing to report other than a broken spring clip on the back rest for the parcel shelf luggage blind. That broke when I loaded a 6' freezer in the back of the Delta. In response to another member regarding the outside temperature, I have different readings on the dash and climate control of half a degree too! 0 Rossocorsa
Happened to me once I just used the emergency cord, hasn't happened since. Surprised you could get a fridge in but mine has the fat executive seats so perhaps the normal seats fold flatter?
0 MikeyRules
No there is quite a big step between the height of the boot floor and the seats.... Still quite a big load space though even so.
0 Rossocorsa
Yeah they all have a big step because I believe they were designed to have a dual layer boot, shame they don't. My seat however sticks up at about 35 degrees even when folded Edited April 13, 2016 by Rossocorsa
0 MikeyRules
Indeed as they have a plastic support on either side of the boot wall. I was going to make one out of marine ply and cover it black cloth. I didn't bother as I've not bought a spare wheel so am using the space in the polystyrene to store all the bits you end up carrying around. 0 Nello
Just to update re:the thread - my filler caps behaved perfectly now ever since I first posted so anyone else get this issue - wiggle your hinge!
0 Rufty10
I have the same problem - it takes 5-6 tries of locking and unlocking the car to get it released. One time, embarressingly it wouldn't open at all and I had to drive off. Been doing it for the 2 years I've had the car (1.9l Delta). Is there an emergency release? Yes I can confirm you are definitely barking mad.... On another note and in answer to your question it should lock when you lock the car. I've just checked mine and it's locked, although annoyi
