2004 Grand Voyager - Intermittent Speedo Drop

Question

Speedo occasionally drops to zero, affecting odometer reading also.

Tested effect against a GPS:  Prior to fault the car speedo and odometer showed progressively higher results - depending on speed (accurate at 30mph, 3-4mph error at 50, 6-7 at 70mph.

After fault occurred, results reversed - i.e. GPS showing higher speed and greater mileage.

When fault ended, normality gradually restored, untilo the next occurrence.

Sensors checked and firm. No discernable break in wiring. Other gauges (revs, fuel, heat) OK.

As other gauges work, could it be something to do with the cruise control - at the steering column paddle?  I had noticed cruise dropped off on occasions.  The contact ring was replaced in June to clear a SRS light problem.

Problem would be tolerable as long as my GPS lives, but I'd like to keep the record straight if possible, so ....Any ideas?

Thanks

KM
