Computer Trip Problems

Question

Hi All

Have had a (worrying? / expensive?) issue with the car today.

The centre display on dash and also the repeater in the odometer has been misbehaving.

car details:

1.6 diesel SR

The car is down to about half a tank of diesel - circa 300 miles left.

Mileage on car 27500 miles.

I have the trip set to Trip A all the time.

So an mpg of approximately 50mpg is about correct.

However, when subjecting the car to acceleration / deceleration today, the Trip A (not the Instant) value varies between 99.9mpg (maximum value on device) and 24.8 mpg.

In 30 seconds or so, the mpg value can go from the lower to mid to high mpg or shuffled and vice versa.

The Instant value varies as per normal - hence a thought of an issue on a pcb?

Trip B behaves as per Trip A.

Could it be a sender? or fuel flow device that is jammed? - rubbish expensive diesel from Sainshack?

OR a software issue?

OR a loose connection?

OR pub problem?

The mileage is correct - using a rough and ready guide to / from home to destination & return.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

Thanks in advance

Sounds a bit screwy, have you tried a hard reset by disconnecting the battery? My trip is OK except that when it goes over approx 700 miles the average speed zeros and then starts to recalculate so you might have done for example 800 miles in 16 hours at an actual average of 50mph but the display will show something like 4mph!

Delia has been to see Mummy at the dealership.

Battery off not attempted - as it would have lit up (possibly) the warning lights like a christmas tree.

Put onto the computer diagnostics thingy, and it appears that one of the computers (of 14?) not talking correctly to one of the others that runs the display(s).

So computer reset via the gizmo, and now working correctly.

Free of charge, thank you Mr Dealership.

(Time - took nearly an hour! - including test run to confirm working correctly).

Hi Mikey

Bought via a Fiat (box) car shifter in Northamptonshire.

There is a Chrysler Jeep dealership in Northampton, and if computer codes have to be read, thats where they take it on a low loader.

(My car it transpires is an ex-Fiat management car run out of Fiat city in the southland of the Oxfordshire area....)

Luckily, the little black cable spoke clear italien to the English USA computer and ... well it got sorted.
