Hi battery charging is fine with regards to the common rail pressure valve, would this be proved by priming the fuel manually before starting?

Hi, New here and don't know my way round an engine. Bought a Grand Voyager 2007 2.8CRD, within a few days had trouble starting it, it would take maybe two or three attempts turning over to start, but has gradually been getting worse. now it can take ages and multiple attempts to turn over and start, so much so its becoming a gamble and embarrassment taking anywhere. Once started it runs well with no issues, any ideas?
