    Sorted. Indeed it was press and hold the mute button, but the one on the unit rather than the one on the steering wheel. Having a youngster on the passenger seat while I was driving helped! Cheers for the heads up.

    Same thing happened to me a while back I think you need to go to the navigation screen and then press and hold the mute button for a few seconds - the mute symbol in the compass area should change
