Question

I managed to change the top strut mounts on my 2.8crd over the weekend I don’t understand the horror stories about compressing the springs? Anyway whilst there I found the clip on the outer cv boot was missing which resulted in the abs reluctor ring and sensor having a nice covering in grease and muck which I thought was a reason for my abs light being on. I’ve cleaned both and tried a hard reset by clipping both battery terminals together but the abs light still hasn’t gone out. Is there any way of turning the light out without the proper scanning tool? Getting desperate as mot is on Friday.

Well done with the changing of the top strut mounts, a big job? prompted me look at mine which are fortunately OK.

I have a 3.3 that had the abs light permanently on, after performing the key sequence it indicated the abs wheel sensors, like you I was under pressure to sort before the MOT so ordered on a next day took no time to fit. MOT failed on something else......

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Good luck.

Thanks cerbie, apart from the usual tie bar nut removal it was straightforward, I used two Sealy claw type compressors and two single link compressors, I tightened them up a couple of turns at a time with no problems. I’m no mechanic so rather bemused why it causes so much fear in doing the top mounts. I had more “ fun “ changing a broken spring on a Laguna.
