Front Lights Problem

Question

Hello

Im hoping someone can help me with a problem that seems to have developed on my 2004 2.5CRD Anniversary Edition Voyager.

The front drivers side indicator developed an intermittent fault but all other lights were fine, so I thought it was maybe a faulty bulb and decided to check it at the weekend. The next day the headlight and sidelight on the drivers side stopped working as well but the passenger side was fine. When the headlights were off and the indicator was turned on the sidelight bulb flashed instead of the indicator.

When I looked to remove the headlamp unit the main 8 pin power connector appeared to be damaged with the clip broken so I don't know if this is causing the problem???

I swopped the headlight units over and tried the drivers side on the passenger side and all the lights functioned correctly when on the passenger side but the passenger unit did not work when plugged into the drivers side which made me eliminate any problems in the headlamp unit and made me think it was an issue with either the main 8 pin connector or the wiring on the drivers side.

Could the 8 pin connector be the problem or could it be a problem with a bad earth???? or something completely different????

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks

An update to my problem:

Managed to change the broken connector but the lights were still not working.

Had a mess around with the wiring and managed to get the side light and indicator working on the drivers side but still no headlight. These have since gone again which makes me think it could be a problem with the wiring or an earth?

Anyway had a good look and noticed that on the passenger side wiring there is the blue plastic clip (shown in the picture) which as one of the wires running through it to the connector and then a brown cable (possibly used as some kind of earth?) coming out of it and this runs across the car to the drivers side lights where it runs into another blue plastic clip.

Is this wire standard on this vehicle or does it look like it was added by the previous owner??

Also any ideas as to whether this is providing an earth or doing some other function?

Im hoping someone has some ideas as it is really starting to get me down now!
