Question

Hi, I'm pretty new to the forum, and just wondered if anyone had had any experience fitting an aftermarket stereo/sat nav to a Delta before - I was looking at one of the new Pioneer CarPlay Apple ones, but Halfords removed the facia in my Delta and said it was impossible to fit (their exact words) - even with the double din facia I'd bought. So, has anyone else ever tried (and/or failed)? Or is it possible to install a manufacturer sat nav (if purchased) that would've come in a higher specification Delta?

Thanks, Ryan.

Has anyone ever heard of Eonon? Seen a few Deltas overseas with these posted and they seem remarkably cheap for an integrated Sat Nav / DVD? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KIT-2DIN-GPS-LANCIA-DELTA-AUTORADIO-GPS-6-2-HD-USB-SD-BLUETOOTH-MP3-DIVX-MAPPE/261367503528?_trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131017132637%26meid%3D1cea2941bf9d4c56906740b247c97875%26pid%3D100033%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D181653407831

You can get the relevant dash surrround to integrate with the Delta.

I've bought a sony wx-gt90bt cost £100.00 Will need to get the fascia kit and the SWC adapter etc so that will add another £60.00 or so.

I dont need sat nav ... I know where I'm going !

I fitted a double din Pioneer unit in my old Alfa GT it had a rear USB input which allowed me to route a cable into glovebox to hide my iPod but I cant be bothered with the hassle of that this time so it will be front connection only for the iPod.  The Sony has a nice app for controlling the iPod from a Smartphone not really sure what use that will be...

It's well spec'd for such a cheap unit... I'm just not sure about the HUGE volume control as it might look a bit odd compared with the rest of the switch gear.

You'll have to post up some pic's when you get it fitted.

At least its got some reasonable sized buttons for the radio stations ...  I was thinking of doing some customisation of the cheap looking silver plastic panels but I'll leave that mod for another day. I'd thought about putting some wood veneer on them .... I'll maybe practice on the original panel after I take it off!

I'll post some pics !

Yes I haven't had any responses to any of my emails either which is very poor indeed!

So just to be clear... You have got the Sat Nav aerial haven't you? This one is square (about 40mm) with a self adhesive pad on the back.

Is it just the two TV aerials, DVD box and cable to connect that you are missing?

Yep, I've got the Sat Nav aerial/GPS tracker, it's just the TV aerial I'm missing. I can't get any replies from them so I'm a bit stuck at the moment...

Ryan you just need the standard removal tool like this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UNIVERSAL-RADIO-REMOVAL-TOOLS-KEYS-PINS-PAIR-CITROEN-FORD-PEUGEOT-VAUXHALL-/191489085612?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item2c95a390ac

Insert them into the two holes either side of the fascia and you'll feel a click as it engages and pushes the locking pins in. Then you can just pull the radio out gently and once clear of the aperture unplug the cables at the rear... Make sure you eject any CD you may have prior to disconnection lol!

You can extract a radio component without spending out on these bits of kit.

Use four 'thick - 2mm plus' heavy gauge paperclips or four 2mm head electrical screwdrivers.

Do not force the unblock, but you will feel a gentle pressure from the springs in the unit.

Have extracted Fiat Tipo and Uno by this method to repair cables coming out the back (spade connectors in those days).

Lol even easier is to cut up a standard metal coathanger... I still have these in my toolbox from about 1985! Removed more stereo's than I'd like to admit to ha-ha

Does anyone have the workshop manual pics for the central dash assembly?

I started to take it to bits today to fit my Sony double DIN unit and had to stop as I couldnt see a way of getting the single din metal cradle out .. plus I was missing the correct star driver to take apart the dash control unit from the silver fascia.

any pics or drawings would really help .. I've learned not to rush these jobs!

Cheers

Hi Mikey

It sometimes is useful being a Physics teacher - top pocket forgetfulness is sometime times useful - many screwdrivers have migrated into my toolbox!

However, due to HSE rules and regulations, we are not allowed to teach kids how to put 13A mains plugs on.

As it seems to be with a well known PeeCee supplier who sells Indian meals. Mum has to put up with a flex on a sub countertop washing machine, until I get down there to chop of the plug, shove it up the hole in the countertop and reattach a plug to let it look pretty and work more safely than they left it.

The afore stated shop has not responded to an email to their head takeaway counter - maybe they are too embarrassed to know that 'water qualified' engineers cannot supply and fit a 13A plug.

Hmm I'm not keen on microwave meals and prefer my 'Curries' a bit more specialist! ;)

I used to work for Tandy a long time ago and we used to give new recruits as part of their induction, 'plug' and fuse safety training and certification as nothing ever came with a plug fitted... Makes you laugh these days now we're in the dawn of the health & safety officers where there's blame there's a claim society we now find ourselves in! The world has truly gone mad!!

Sorry Stuart can't help you with a 'take your car apart manual' I'm afraid to say...

The four button control unit does come apart really easily although you do end up literally taking it to pieces. It does back together simply enough though when you come to re-attach it to your new fascia.

I didn't need to remove the metal cradle unfortunately as my new unit was also single DIN at the back.

Ive completed the four button control part OK.  Actually I will take some photos of the process and put them up here ... Im waiting on the steering wheel remote control cable for the SONY which I forgot to order so It will be this saturday before I get to have a go at the cradle part. I need daylight as my garage is full of other crap so no car has ever been in there!
