Newbie - And Question Re Headlight Change

Question

Hi all

I've had my 12 plate delta for just over a year now and still loving every second! I've found a lot of the information on here to be really helpful. My only gripe with the car so far is that any warning resets requre a main dealer as most indys don't have the correct software to reset and I don't have the technical capabilities to do it myself. Guess it's only a small issue.

I'm hoping someone can help with a query re bulbs. As you can probably tell, I'm pretty rubbish when it comes to cars and maintenance. One of my bulbs (passenger side dipped beam) has blown and I'm trying to source a replacement. I've been checking a few websites and when I put in my registration, the make and model comes up correctly but they all say they have no bulbs for the car. So I don't know which bulbs to order.

Can anyone advise?

Thanks!

Morning!

You can download Fiats Multiecuscan software and buy the cables off eBay so that you can do your own diagnostics and warning resets.

http://www.multiecuscan.net/

The limited version is free, but you can buy the licence for only 50 euros (£37) for the full blown all singing all dancing one!

Adapter set &Diagnostic cable:

The headlight bulbs are just H7's so eBay again...

Or here: http://www.micksgarage.com/proddetails.aspx?pid=4834127

even Halfords will do them if you're desperate but won't list them in the guides they have in store... so take your bulb in or have them change it for a few quid if you can't be bothered.... Hope that helps fella :)

Just to update this - I'm sure bairn will have changed his by now(!) however ironically my nearside passenger bulb just went so I've just done mine.

For the record they are H7 55W bulbs to replace. A bit of a bugger to change the nearside as the battery and washer bottle are somewhat in the way.

You can remove the water bottle 'spout' to assist as its simply pulls off the main bottle body.

A word of warning however to all future bulb-changers. Theres a small cavity inside the nearside front wing over the arch - right where you'd balance your tools and I managed to lose a screwdriver down the side just where you cannot get an arm down to retrieve! I attempted to remove the inside wheel arch to go up inside but the tool (small 5" screwdriver) has disappeared somewhere in to the inner body ether! Simple bulb change took me a couple of hours - multiple swear words and x2 skinned backs of hands and I still haven't found it!

I'm hoping its so well buried it won't move until my next MoT when my mate can get it on its ramps but be warned not to lose anything down that panel gap! Its a £$%^&*(*!!!

2 valuable pieces of kit for bulb changes in the Delta, a mirror on a rod and a torch ?

As Nello said, the washer bottle top clips out on the passenger side, although on my wifes car, it didn't quite seal back perfectly

Also I used Lidl bulbs, 6 euros a pair and they have 50% extra light, very effective on the winter months ?

Nearside went this week, still a pain to do but this time I had a mini usb endoscope that attaches to my mobile really handy makes seeing around corners easy. Cheap too direct from China although I have to say I have two the first one is really superb but the image on the second is less sharp well worth getting one though for these awkward jobs. So did the offside bulb today and yes Alan was right - its a pain as well. Not quite as much as the nearside but still annoying. There is more room for manoeuvre however not enough of an angle to be able to see the back of the light unit and the full bulb/clip. The most annoying thing about changing the Delta's headlight bulbs is the damn stupid Bulb clip. The problem is they easily unclip themselves. If Fiat had designed them with a small amount of fore-thought they would have made them clip on to the bulb holder without coming off. Its so flippin' tricky then trying to clip it back in - insert the new bulb then make sure it doesn't fall out without clipping back over to secure.

I agree completely !!!

I fitted a pair to my wifes Delta and while I am well used to Fiat and their awkward bulb positions (try the mk2 Punto lh fog and diplight bulb changes) the Delta was a particular pain in the exit orifice! Despite having a good mirror, i needed the dexterity of a double jointed, piano playing, small handed midwife, to properly align the clip, while making sure that the bulb doesn't twist in the holder . . Nello, I feel your pain and frustration

Well that didn't last long - Just had to change the nearside bulb again - 20 months on?! Still a pain but not as bad as the first time................. Used Ring bulb this time - supposed to be long-life - we'll see............  The other thing that gets me is that I only noticed the lack of light that prompted me to check if I had a bulb out - no errors on the Dash - yet when I tried to swap my rear plate marker lights with some LED ones CANBUS went bonkers?!

I get the feeling I'm not going to enjoy this when one of mine pops lol

BE Kindly advised if the car has incandescent lamps and you fit LED  lamps in the UK - it will unfortunately fail the MO`t as it changes it 'conformity' tag.

HSE in its wildest and poorest mode. I would far prefer to have some higher intensity `lets than of the 55W halogens in my main beam. `LED power would equate to approximately + 40%.

:-)

- luckily the suns over the horizon and I can turn off my tail lamps down here in Antarctica.

That ruling really is such a load of tosh - There are loads of German rubbish out there with massively blinding lights including DRL's - yet when someone tries to improves the safety of their car from rubbish and inefficient incandescent lamps they say its does not confirm. For the record I didn't switch to LED's however my wife's car passed its first MoT yesterday and nothing was flagged.......

I put Ring Life Halogens in the Delta Mike - it was the only thing Wiko's had and I needed a bulb as working Nights............. I changed Mrs Nello's DRL's in her 500X to LED's as Fiat were tight with the original 500X and had incandescent bulbs which looked daftly yellow especially when her top-of-the-range Cross Plus has Xenon headlights. Through the MoT no problem. They have added LED's in the recent revamp 'S2' 500X now..........
