Lights!

Question

We have a ypsilon which the missus mostly drives however on the way back from her work (late shift) in the dark

she said all the lights suddenly went out for about 5 seconds then came back on again. Now she refuses to drive

the car at night and I drove her home from work but everything was fine but she insists there is something wrong

with the car.

We took the car back to the Fiat garage where we got it from but they said everything is fine with the car and it

must of been a glitch. Is there anything we can do?

I have a problem with my lights switching off randomly I have contacted dealer who were less than impressive and unable to book my car in till mid October. Finally after a lot of arguing they will take a quick look tomorrow but can't promise anything. I am a driving instructor and this is not what I expect from a dealer that sells me a car with such a dangerous fault the wait is unacceptable.

I have a 2012 model from new and have had no problems with it until now. about a month ago the headlights

went out and in seconds came on again, I was uncertain that it had even happened.

Last night however I was able to get out of the car and watch the headlights going on and off (reminded me of Christmas)

dashboard lights also went off and on.

Have emailed dealer this morning, awaiting reply.

post-857-0-05030400-1445513589_thumb.jpgHi everyone. I would like to know more re this issue of lights going off. I have a 2012 Fiat Panda and have the same problem. The lights suddenly goes off then on again. I removed the steering column trim panel and found out the the headlight/wiper/indicator switch has the same part no of an Ypsilon. Can anyone confirm that the fault is from the light stalk? can is be repair or replaced?

My wife's car 12 plate has had two recalls I believe both around the engine management computer. We returned the car on both occasions. Car now out of warranty has developed a problem that head lights permanently on in stead of day time running lights. Getting local dealer to be interested was impossible. Two page letter to Fiat customer services led to another visit when garage undertook diagnostic check which shows defective headlight stalk and quoted £218 to replace. Continued with complaint and Chrysler agreed to provide part free but still have to pay £84 for fitting. Going in tomorrow and not convinced new headlight stalk will resolve issue but making some progress.

Hi, I also have experienced this problem with my headlights randomly switching off, very scary. This may sound crazy but for the last three weeks I do not turn anything on until the interior lights have gone out and the fault has not reoccured. Worth a try? Let me know how it goes

Just come back from garage with new headlight stalk fitted and day time running lights now working properly. Yippee!

Was this the end of this one?

Mine is just having that problem now and I will be looking to do the work myself as garages are not at all interested

thanks for any help!

Hi Jason, those people have only posted those entries in 2016 & 2018 and haven't been on the site since then, so a good chance you won't hear from them.

These are the recalls affecting the Ypsilon with affected VINs listed: https://www.vehicle-recall.co.uk/make/CHRYSLER-UK-LTD/YPSILON

If you have no paperwork for whether the work has already been done as it was a while ago you should be able to check with FCA (or whatever they're called nowadays).  If you need to do the work you can do the replacement stalk easy enough but you will need the BCM software update which is dealer or, if you're lucky, a good independant.

Hope that's of some help

Intermittent lights failure 2012 Ypsilon …..attached Vin numbers affected, do not think a multifunctional switch will cure the problem looks like a Body Computer update as already mentioned .

one comment I have is that my problem seems to go away after a about 10 miles driving …. My car is little used so I guess there is a small voltage drop on the battery……perhaps the computer update is to lower the voltage/amps needed to maintain lights in the on mode…..only guessing.

WHO WILL DO THAT UPDATE IS THE QUESTION?
