Lightning Bolt After T Mod.

Question

Hi.

Only had the blooming thing over a week.

Fitted a silicone T mod to the air intake pipe as plastic one had a crack and repair.

Not sure what’s gone off. Everything looked ok. Could hear the turbo wind up though.

Drove to work on the motorway this morning and got the lightning bolt and TPS came up as the chime.

Stopped as soon as I got off and turned the car off. Waited a min and all was well.

Set off home and it happened sooner.

Now I have the check engine light also.

Do you think it could be the throttle or possibly a leak in the system mod that would throw up the fault code?

Gonna buy a new pipe though

Right.

What a muppet. Looked up codes and it was pointing towards a leaking air intake so today I took a good look at the T pipe mod. It turns out it was fine but I tweaked it anyway.

The problem was when I did that I replaced the O rings in the intercooler pipe. The big U shaped clip that holds it tight to the resonator hadn’t engaged so it had popped off slightly.

Fitted everything back together and double checked.

Took out for a spin and all is well

... and this is what I hate about modern cars.

I had a very similar problem two years ago. I was driving down the A10 at 80 mph, suddenly I get the chime, the lightning bolt of death, and the car goes into limp mode as I'm overtaking a convoy of trucks.

After a 50 quid diagnostic it turned out to be a leak in a pipe leading to the turbo.

An old school motor would have kept going, eventually the leak would have got really bad and I'd have heard it and fixed it. But the car wouldn't have put me on offer in the fast lane.

Glad you sorted it mate.
