Question

Start Stop function?

I have the 1.4 M Air

The start stop function never worked due to battery. Nw that I am changing my battery, the battery shop told me that the already installed battery (from previous owner) is a non start stop variety.

The start stop one (with coding) would cost 130 quids

Like for like replacement only 70 quids

Any one knows wheather getting the starstop battery would actually make the start stop work or not?

I don't know the answer to this exact question, but I have the same car as you and also the start-stop is working only from time to time. More frequently when the weather is warm and the battery well charged (ie after highway travel).

I put the question to my car mechanic who has 35y experience in Alfa Romeos, Lancias and Fiats, and he told me not to bother with the start-stop. He actually said that it is better if it doesn't function as it puts a lot of strain on the car's other systems. I have read on other forums that the problem is well known on other cars of the Fiat group, most particularly the Giulietta.

S/S is a bit of an emissions cheat, makes the mpg seem better than really is Similarly the 'sport' button, that is what the car the maker wanted to give you but put in a different remap  and set it as the default to make the mpg seem good.

S/S needs a different type of battery as the usage is obviously higher but the gap between charges is much shorter so needs different battery technology.

Glad my car hasnt got it TBH
