Gv Speakers Play For A Few Seconds Then The Sound Stops

Question

A recent issue i have started having is with my speakers playing for a few seconds then cutting out.  When they play they play as they always have.

My theory is that there is an electrical issue else where (maybe as simple as a blown fuse) and something about how the Chrysler GV electrics try to re-route things when there is a fault is causing the speakers to go off.

The radio functions as it should just no sound.

I did disconnect the battery a few days ago (after fixing an ABS sensor which has now got rid of the ABS light).

Any suggestions about how to even begin approaching this though?

Thanks

Chris

Hi Chris, I’m gonna follow this topic as I’m having exactly the same issue with my 07 GV. I’ve read a lot about it but unfortunately there isn’t any suggestions for my case. I have standard radio and it’s not infinity. What’s yours? I guess I don’t have an amp, or have I? All fuses checked and everything seems to be ok with them.

I’m going to strip the rear cards and check for amp because it seems to be something like loose connection. I don’t see any reason why would play sometimes and won’t others.

Many thanks

Dan

Hi Dan,

I still have the issue with the difference now that the sound has stopped altogether.  It was intermittent for a few weeks/ days (i don't drive it that often!)

Likewise all fuses look okay and no other odd electrical behaviour.

I put the intermittent play down to some part failing rather than a loose connection. I know the voyager sometimes reroutes electrics when something fails.

It can make it hard to diagnose the cause of electrical issues. But i don't think this is causing the issues.

I've also read about lots of people looking for the amp and never finding it... with various others telling people its on the back of one of the speakers... including the front.

I read about one owner who just changed the head unit (like for like) and it worked. The fault being in the head unit itself.

I think im going to try that route first.

Ill post a pic of my radio though. I think it's standard.

Keep me posted about anything you find and i'll do the same.

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris, I have stripped the card on the right hand side by the rear seats and when I removed the oval speaker, I found the amp behind it,(god knows why they put it there). I’ve got it out but I don’t see any visual problems. There are two plugs which were firmly plugged, played with them in,out but no joy ?. I need to find now some information about how to check it.

About going for aftermarket is an option but I personally won’t do it. There are so many other problems I’ve read while googling mine with aftermarket, sound as well, drain battery etc

Also I just made my dvd playing back and if I sort the sound will be great.

I had to started maybe with this that I bought the car just a few months ago and I’m experiencing lots of annoying issues. No sound, dvd not working(done this), no blower working(working on this atm), no light in most of the buttons, climate control, rear wipers, heating seats(done that) no jet washer on the back wiper....I guess there are many more I haven’t found yet.

Cheers

Dan

Hi bignev, wiper works it’s just the jet wash, I guess I need to trace the pipe from the pump to the end to find if it’s a mechanical or leak problem.

Thank you about your tips will keep updated the group.

I have some feeling about the amp and I ordered one off eBay. Hope I’m right! At least will start from somewhere.

Cheers

I bought it from eBay: this is what you need:

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F163787399651

I don’t know how to upload pics here, sorry.

This is the one I bought, it’s from 2004 gv and mine is 2007, it doesn’t matter. There are all the same from 2001 till 2008. Just to be clear mine is not infinity sound system.

Last weekend I removed the side right panel by the rear seats and the speaker to find the amp behind. Then I removed the amp and put everything back except the speaker so my wife can use the car with the kids. I left the cables hanging out so tonight I just plugged it to try. Hopefully this weekend I’ll find some time to remove everything again and put the amp on place.

I can take a video and some pics for you to be clear what to do. Question is how to send them to you :))))

Cheers
