Question

Hi delta 2.0 limited owner for just 4 weeks but big problem this eve.....

Cooling fan on engine temp going nuts, down on power, heaters cold, water pressurising, burning plastic smell and sound of belt squeal but no sign of leaks but water pressurises? Possible pump failure? She's on 78k no history of a change. Any guidance will be greatly appreciated as topics on these are non existent.

Hello and welcome. If the Heater is cold then the thermostat is probably stuck open/closed. Is the water bubbling/boiling in the expansion tank? Water Pump could have failed although that is fairly rare. If you need the Pump changing you may as well get all the belts done as well. IIRC we got the 1.9 in the Limited here - the 2.0 was for Europe - Alan (Rosso on here) will know. Just looked on my mates website as he is an Italian specialist Independent. That engine in the Alfa is around £350+vat for the belts/pump etc. so I would say about £500 approx to change including the Thermo. Probably best doing if you do not know the full history of the car. Let us know how you get on. Was that the Grey one that was on Autotrader a few weeks ago?

Well found the problem absolutely mental it still ran glad I switched off when I did! Anyone ever seen this happen before most likely all original. Any guides on changing I'm confident at doing anything regularly work on cars only issue i have is I don't have a locking kit.

Neil

Limited is 2.0, belts and pump should have been done some time ago at that mileage. I would comment though that it is actually possible the belts etc were done but wth a substandard water pump. My reliable independent garage will not normally fit pattern water pumps on any make because he has had so many issues. He did fit one I supplied for mine (or should I say my ex-delta) but he knows I wouldn't buy crap.

It's been a week now no issues since replacing I had an INA kit including metal pump. Everyone who's seen the state on the old belt and bits are gob smacked lol. Changed all boost pipes to silicone (orange). Looking to upgrade few things any recommendations?
