Battery Dying!

Question

Hi All,

Recently purchased a 2004 Grand Voyager in December 2017.  Been back to the dealer that sold it two times now.   Brand new battery put in it yesterday, drove well then this morning dead, again!

The garage tested for electrical drainage and all reported back fine.

Has anyone had this issue before??

Pulling my hair out now!!

Hi, their are few discussions about it on the forum, you could look through my posts too.

Could you upload a picture with the ignition barrel?

Is the way you pull out the key, at least it was in my case, some electrics are left on, you have to turn it all the way to the left and then a step to the right.

Do you hear the buzz when open the door and the key is out of the ignition?

Hope it helps.

I would ask the garage to check the alternator. It's looks like you can drive on full battery, so the alternator doesn't charge the battery.

The best way to check.charge the battery to full. Start the car. Take off the +. If car is still running, then it's not the alternator, if not then probably the alternator dead. Common fault for 2.8crd engines.

Thanks for reply guys!  Mikebh8 thanks for pointing this out, I know that there is setting that leaves electrics on ie the radio maybe this is the case?   I will check this when I get home.  So the key should NOT be taken out when the ignition is fully round to the left?  Needs to click back round one click?

Maybe its how I left it last night?

Andrips I will ask the garage to do this, although they checked it yesterday but might have missed something.

Thanks again guys.

Just something to consider. I've had the same problem in the past with both my 3rd Generation and 4th Generation. From what I read at the time was that the recommended battery wasn't adequate enough for the vehicle, especially for vehicles that had power doors and liftgate, and where journeys were primarily short. What I found that worked for me was to upgrade the battery to a higher Ah, which in my case I changed to a 84Ah with a little modfication to the battery tray, and also changing out all of the interior lights to led equivalents. I've not had any further problems since.
