Had the exact same issue on my 2006 300c, it started to go blank then occasionally come back on, I took the whole unit out to check the wiring and found nothing wrong. The screens are not obtainable so the whole unit needs swapping out. I wanted to keep it stock so looked on eBay and phoned local distmantlers and everyone was asking for 300 to 400 pounds, which I thought was expensive since you could have an aftermarket one for around the same price. My patience paid off as ive just brought one off ebay for 80 pounds and it works brilliantly, albeit i had to source the net to get a code for the unit to work in my car which was a paltry 7 pound. After digging around its a common part to fail on these units but then i shouldnt grumble as its the original unit to the car.
