Newbie Hello And Looking For Help On A Grand Voyager

Question

Bought a 2007 2.8 diesel Grand voyager a few months ago as it seemed the ideal vehicle for transporting a disabled person around europe in May. Drives nicely but following a full service and overall inspection has had to have some work done.

Now, here's the thing, engine oil was way high at service and after only a short time has risen again.

The garage think it's either fuel or ATF getting into the oil as there is no sign of milkiness indicating water but they freely admit that they are no experts on these vehicles.

Anybody help with words of wisdom? Also any one point me in the right direction for a transmission oil cooler if ours can't be repaired?

I would definitely say injectors. This is very common on cars with a dpf filter as they over fuel to clean the dpf when it regenerates. If you have leaking injector it deposits more fuel than is needed and due to how thin diesel is this slips past the rings and into the sump. You would normally also notice a bit more smoke from the exhaust than normal aswell. You need to sort it asap as the oil will be thinned down with diesel and could result in not enough lubrication to your crankshaft which could end in your engine failing catastrophically.

I would take it to a diesel specialist and get them to perform a leak off test, shouldn't be expensive maybe £45 or so. They should identify any faulty injectors. It could just be one at which point the fix is fairly cheap. I cannot think how atf fluid could mix with the oil as they are in no way linked together so would be impossible to happen. For that reason I wouldn't use the garage who told you that as it fetches into question there knowledge of cars.

Evening Gents, many thanks for the valuable advice.

Had all 4 injectors pulled and tested, 3 were barely a pass but the 4th was a total fail, had them rebuilt and the 2000 mile round trip went without a hitch.

Loaded up with 3 passengers, an electric disabled buggy and other stuff plus crates of beer it returned a very pleasing 29mpg, thanks for all your help.
