Delta Owner New Queries

Question

Hi All,

My wife and I both own deltas 1.4, one Se amd SR.

We both love them, being a previous Alfa 156 owner, I have a draw towards Italian cars.

Just wondering if you can help with a few questions.

Does anyone know where I can find a Delta Maintenance Service Schedule?

Is there an alfa epr equivalent for the deltas to display schematics of part removal?

I have used Motormech with my Alfa just wonder if there is any guidance on getting the cambelt changed is it wise to do the waterpump at same time or any other hard to get to parts? As both are due next year

I am looking to get MultiEcuscan, are there any how to guides or tips on what to consider and hoe to setup?

On my SR, one annoyance is changing the radio station presets. Is there a way without having to hit preset button then turn thr dial to select the preset? The steering remote just searches through to the next frequency?

Thanks All,

Jos

Hi Jos and welcome to the 'Italian section'' Nello, Rossocorsa and myself have a selection of Italia, so between us should be able to answer most questions... I sell them too! (y)

I'll have a go at some of your questions...

Does anyone know where I can find a Delta Maintenance Service Schedule?
I'm not sure exactly what you're after here? The car will tell you when a service is due, and you can check by scrolling through the menu until you find 'service interval' and it will tell you how many miles are left until the next one. All of the engines can be found in Fiat and Alfa so the schedules are exactly the same. They all have two resets, one for service by miles covered, and one for oil degradation. An oil change isn't always carried out at every service unless you demand it, as I do. I have an ex-Alfa, Ferrari and Maser trained Master Tech who is now an Indy that I use for all my Italian cars. Motormech will be perfectly capable of servicing it, if they're your local Indy?

Is there an alfa epr equivalent for the deltas to display schematics of part removal?

Yes there is. There is a thread on here I think posted by RossoCorsa that links all of the useful sites. I'll have a look later If I get time....

As said above all engine parts are shared with Fiat and Alfa so no problems with access to parts. Always change the water pump at the same time as belts, pulley and tensioner. My Indy charges me around £240 all in including a full service, but that is at trade price.

I am looking to get MultiEcuscan, are there any how to guides or tips on what to consider and hoe to setup?

I've not used it for years as my Indy has Examinor, but I think Rosso on here does? From memory you can get the cables off eBay and buy the software directly from the website. I think it was fairly intuitive to be honest?

On my SR, one annoyance is changing the radio station presets. Is there a way without having to hit preset button then turn thr dial to select the preset? The steering remote just searches through to the next frequency?

I've upgraded my original head unit to a Navplus Android 7'' touchscreen so have difficulty remembering the original?? Don't you just tune to the station you want and the press and hold the preset number you want it at?

Oh and if you want to get rid of all the Chrysler badges and put them back to Lancia look at some of our threads on here for details! Airbags, front grills, badges, door sills, floor mats etc etc are easily available from eBay.it The car is based on the latest Fiat Bravo and built in Cassini in Italy, so no problems with availability!

Thanks Mikeyrules, all useful info and glad to hear the community is strong.

In regard to the Maintenance Service Schedule. I was after what should be changed/serviced at each interval. E.g cambelt at 5 yrs or 80k, air filter interval, pollen filter interval, when to do sparkplugs, when to flush brake fluid, coolant etc. As inl would like to do as much as possible myself or at least keep both on track if I can't get to Motormech.

Don't worry I will try and find the old threads by rosso.

Am tempted by rebadging, lancia specialist in Pershore quoted £500 to do the lot including the airbag as don't trust myself!

£500 sounds a lot to rebadge depending on what they are including! What exactly did that include?

You need:

  • Boot badge
  • Rear Quarter window badges (tiny)
  • Sill Plates
  • Airbag
  • Front Grill
  • Wheel centre caps
  • Headrests

Lastly the start up menu needs re-programming to show Lancia instead of Chrysler on the welcome screen. Oh and if really anal you can also change the plastic engine cover too...

Most of the badges can be found quite cheaply on eBay and the old ones are easy to remove with tooth floss and some sticky stuff remover. The grills are a little harder to replace without snappy the lugs on the old one, unless you remove the front bumper to get access to them.

With regards the airbag, I have covered the process on my Delta thread for reference, but in simple terms you disconnect the battery insert an airbag removal tool pop off the airbag, disconnect the wires and replace. Providing you've powered down the vehicle properly and then disconnected the battery there is no danger at all.

Cheers for the service schedule. Can't believe the spark plugs need renewing so often! Not expensive but just seems excessive.

As suggested by others going to do the oil every 6 months whenever possible.

£500 included the lot I think, including headrest and software update.

You guys must have a lovely Delta if it's been re-badged and stereo updated etc?

What's the availability of Delta specific parts like? As in bumpers headlights etc? All available from Italy I guess.

I think £500 is very cheap to professionally change all the items listed, the airbag alone new costs a fortune for the delta be careful as ypsilon one looks the same and is much cheaper but doesn't fit (although you can swap the cover over). I can't see headrests as being economic to change and indeed I'm not even sure on my car if you can easily remove the rear ones which appear fixed (executive type back seat)

Yep the guy said that the Airbag would be second hand because the new ones cost a fortune.

Headrests were included in the price, but he said it would depend on the car VIN code probably life you said on the rear emblems.

I have an SR and not the Limited. With children i needed the Rear Sliding functionality. My alfa had full leather and alfa embossed seats all round, I miss it and the handling...

Rossacorsa have you changed the stereo? The preset thing is annoying me, is there a way to navigate through your presets easily?

thanks

Hi Jos - Mines an SR as well................ I use MotorMech all the time - Paul Gilbert the owner is a good mate. Paul will tell you what needs doing at when. He looks after my Delta, Coupe and X1/9...... I think the handbook has a schedule in it but do not have it with me at the moment. Which specialist quoted to do the badge changes? Mike and I were two of the first to do the 'conversion' in this country so I would be interested to see/hear a specialist take on whats required etc. I know my How-To post on here ages ago for the front grille change has been used by Ypsilon owners as a guide...........  The parts are not that easy to get hold of but it can be done. BTW chaps - finally did my Airbag!  :D

On the factory nav I never use presets, there is a list function that will list all FM stations with a decent signal wherever you are I just scroll down that to select the station I want.

On another subject just sailed through another mot no issues at approx 53k miles who says Italian cars are unreliable?

Hi Nello,

I tookmy alfa to Motormech and was always pleased. I work with a mate Nigel who knew Paul and Svet really well, forever getting his 400bhp Couple sorted there.

We have two Deltas in the family so would get the cambelt done on both next year with full service but might and try and get many parts as poss to keep cost down.

Just got hold of some Selenia Pure Energy K so doing a mid year oil change on both.

The place to do the conversion was were my Delta was last serviced.

The chap seemed very knowledgeable so If they were closer they would be a good garage too.

In the manual in mentions about being able to auto close windows on locking is this possible?

Nice one Jos - i know Nigel as well from the Fiat Coupe forum as I also have a Coupe LE and see his Coupe now and again! The Windows will Auto-close if left open on locking. All you need to do is hold the lock button in and any open windows will shut B)

The wheel was a bit of a bugger to release Mike - the air was blue!! - but worth it :D

Nice one Nello, good that you know Nigel, great bloke with a great passion for Italian Cars.

Guys, I was just wondering what you have decided about getting a spare wheel for the delta? I have the emergeny kit that is supplied but not sure I would ever trust it and they say that when the repair seal is used it writes off the tyre.

Can the boot actually house a full size spare looks like its big enough?

I think it can house up to something like 17 inch if you check in the instruction book it lists the spare sizes, I think the 225 wide tires are too wide to fit though. You also need a tool kit as the gunk didn't come with a jack! I bought tool kit and temporary type spare for a bravo off a breakers via eBay although I've not physically checked it a bravo (2007-2014 version) wheel should fit fine as they are mechanically identically cars. As regards the gunk you can use the pump with the gunk disconnected if the puncture is slow as this will probably be sufficient to get the car to a tyre depot and not mess up the tyre.

Incidentally you may well find that the gunk is now past its use by date

I'm sure Bravo wheel options will fit - the Momo S 18" wheel is the same alloy from the T-Jet sport Bravo..... I think but will need to check that not all countries where the Delta was sold allow you to be without an actual spare wheel/tyre so pretty sure an addtional one would fit in.

Cheers guys will see if I can source a bravo wheel.

Do you know where the best place to get original service parts like oil filter, pollen filter and air filter? Isaw good link on here for motor oil but wasn't sure best place to get original parts or if not original next best recommended brands.

Saw a 2l limited on ebay for breaking at 80K looks immaculate wonder if cambelt failed, hence the breaking?

shop4parts.co.uk sell OE genuine Fiat group parts but don't list Chrysler. As mentioned looking for Bravo items will be suitable as well as others with the same engine (MultiAir etc.) TBH I use mostly ebay whether they are listed under Fiat/Alfa or Chrysler
