0 Penguin2007 Posted February 5, 2016 Report Share Posted February 5, 2016 Dana and Trace Costs unknown, but ISTR Ed China quoted a save of £100 ash Costs to you time / fingers / cam belt / water pump (get the right one (bravos have many variants :-( ) If you watch Discovery Channel and faithful ED China - NO..... but he has a hot house to do his jobs. Comfortable mechanic in the outdoors? Rain?? You have to set up the ^ with the ^ should be set up spot on and covered in case of faulty line up ...... 0 matgriff Posted February 6, 2016 Report Share Posted February 6, 2016 I've done the cam belt 3 times on a voyager diesel including one time with the water pump (which was actually fine with 130K miles) it's a time consuming, but not too difficult job. You need a set of timing pins to lock the engine and cams in place, but other than that just normal tools. So it sits idle ticking over to warm up before switching to gas more than a petrol car. Which the cambelt is alot more used than the milage would suggest. 0 bignev Posted March 22, 2016 Report Share Posted March 22, 2016 (edited) The petrol engines don't have rubber cam belts, they are chain driven. I've had 3 of them, 2 on gas like you!Technically it's not a camchain, it's a timing chain as it doesn't do it in the same way as "modern" engine designs do. Check your handbook for suggested intervals - there aren't any. Feel slightly smug that we don't have to do that job. And feel slightly more smug that on gas ours work out less pence per mile than diesel. Recently got the heady level of 26 mpg on a run, at 44p per litre - 101 for diesel, divide 44 for LPG, gives 2.295, multiply this by 26mpg makes an equivilent of 59.68 mpg - fecking awesome!
